Default Do I Have Seat Creep?...

Don't laugh - no please, don't laugh.

Ever since I've had the car (a few months now) I've regularly had to press the button to move the seat backwards. I'm talking about twice a week. Now I know I'm slow, but this is starting to register in my excuse for a brain. Never experienced this before.

I've thought about - and discounted - various possibe causes, as follows:

1. No, my legs aren't getting longer - probably quite the opposite.

2. No I'm not getting fatter - not at that rate, anyway.

3. No, the car's not shrinking in the rain, not noticeably anyway.

4. No, the pedals aren't getting longer - I've checked.

So, what's going on? Has anyone ever heard of Seat Creep? Am I breaking new ground here? Is Seat Creep even possible? Do I need to start taking measurements to check if the seat IS creeping fowards at night, when everyone's in bed?

Never heard of it... but adjust your seat and find a way to mark the position (as precisely as you can!) with some masking tape or something and see if it actually moves or if the voices are just telling you it moved.

The difference lies when you sit with or W/O a coat on.

Oh bollocks, yes it does!

I owe you a drink next time I'm in America - I've moved the tape to the centre bulkhead.

Even thicker vs thinner jackets, sweaters that sort of thing makes a difference.

I know. I've had Z's with electric seats for 12 years and had to make tiny adjustments for clothing all the time - backwards AND forwards. This is different. It only ever goes backwards. By now, in theory, I should be driving from the trunk of the car.

You take up wearing platform shoes?

Any significant dung buildup on the bottoms of your shoes?

I'm assuming you have power seats? Are you perhaps bumping the controls slightly with your leg when getting out?

The clothing was the only tangible thing I could think of, otherwise I'm just throwing stuff out there to maybe spawn further ideas on it.

I have the recaro's, and about once a week I have to reset the seatback. Between moving the seat getting in and out, and leaning on it to lever myself out ( I'm old and about 40 pounds overweight, lol), it wiggles out of position.

You should trade me for my base seats to alleviate yourself of that clearly inconvenient predicament.

Yes, I have power seats. I stopped wearing platform shoes in 1975. I'm a very fussy bastard, so I NEVER step in dogshit.

I am in England. Our steering wheel is on the right, so I get in the right hand door. The power buttons are on the left of the seat, so I never make unintentional contact with them.

But thanks for the ideas.
