Bed liner? I have some crazy idea about paint job

Any idea about paint the whole car with bed liner? I saw a truck with finish like this and I absolutely love it. IMG_1235.JPG

Your car is going to be heavy AF! But, it will be dent resistant. Do you really want a textured finish to the paint? It's a sports car, not a rugged off road vehicle. I say don't do it, but each their own.

These wheels will go well with the paint job.

Crazy weights for sure. Maybe 100 lbs.

I saw a Challenger on YouTube that was painted like that, but only the top half, say, belt line up. He did it as a way to conceal hail damage. Sounds dumb, but it actually looked kind of cool once it was done. Personally it's not my taste, but, for me the bigger concern would be what you'd do if it got old to you. Like, if you wanted to change the color or go back to a gloss or whatever. I'd imagine that stuff would be crazy difficult/expense to remove or smooth out.

A jeep is not a truck.

It's not that heavy as they won't need to spray it on that thick. The texture actually kind of sucks to clean as crap gets in crevices.

However, the biggest problem... You do know there is basically no coming back from this right? The texture is there. Getting the panels smooth again requires stripping everything, which is virtually impossible. You can sort of do it chemically, but then you end up with bare metal in places you don't want bare metal, which means rust and corrosion.

Lets also look at this from the other side, it's nearly impossible to touch up in a seamless manner. You can't blend the stuff. If you chip a fender, all you can do is touch it up but now the chip is a different thickness. If someone backs into the quarter panel of your Z, they can't do anything but layer everything on thick enough to try and blend everything together. You can see how this gets troublesome in a hurry.

I have a Jeep, and put truck bed liner in a few spots on the exterior many years ago. My entire tub is truck bed lined inside. I can tell you first hand the short comings. This year when I started the rust repair on my Jeep and prepping it for paint, I can tell you I definitely wished I had never put that truck bed liner on the outside of my Jeep. And that's on a Jeep that get wheeled.

This is the problem with depreciation- nice cars start getting cheaper and you start seeing them with cheaper and dumber modifications.... Like the whole car being sprayed in f*cking bedliner.

I've used it, but more as a chip guard on my skirts. I got ribbed for doing it but since putting it on it looks a heck of alot better than the previous skirts that were taken off. Here is the link.

Rhino Liner or similar as chip guard?

If you want this kind of look, there's Vinyl applications that can get you close to that look that are reversible if you get sick of it. My buddy had it on his old Supra, (the Poopra) You can see some of the texture in his FS ad here:

Big difference in doing it under, where it is not visible vs the whole car.
