Windshield Replacement
So my windshield cracked yesterday. Looks like 2 lucky stone chips about 3/4" apart got it started. Haven's started looking around but usually my go to glass is PPG. Had a no-name brand installed on my 240z a long time ago that had some sort of red contamination in between the laminate so I'm a little more careful now. Any other suggestions out there for a brand that has good quality?

Sounds like you are looking for quality....but this reminded me of something....
In FL your insurance must cover 100% of windshield replacements so an interesting phenomenon has popped up with independent shops who "buy back" your cracked windshield for $100 and then attempt to overbill the insurance company... I tried one of them to fix my cracked windshield on my Ranger and sure enough... the guy came, did a fine job, and handed me a $100 check. The only downside is a whiny phonecall from my insurance company about being overbilled, but they explained to me that they will only pay what they would have paid to safelite or something like that. I feel this is a win-win-win: I got $100 to have my windshield replaced, my insurance company was annoyed and had to tie up resources to whine about it, and glass replacement company of questionable ethics got shot down on their billing and probably barely made any money if not took a small loss. |
