What do you guys think of the Seibon CF hoods?
So, I've been wanting to get a Seibon CF hood for awhile, but just couldn't get the balls to get one because a couple of my friends said it would look like my car's been in an accident and I couldn't afford to buy a color-matched hood.
Personally, I feel that it looks cool, especially on a PW Z and it also serves a functional purpose (heat dissipation). This is the one I'm interested in: http://www.ecautosound.com/images/se...05NS350-GT.jpg And here's the link to their thread: http://www.the370z.com/body-interior...ts-styles.html Do you think it's a waste of money for a guy who's probably never going to track his car or is this something worth the money? Also, would it look better in pearl white with CF vents like this : http://www.bmwhood.com/e92hood.jpg |
If Seibon hadnt put those ridiculous naca ducts going up the middle, that would be an awesome hood. I think it will look tacky with those NACA ducts. Check out the TS style one. I think it would look awesome painted like that M3 GTR hood...on the z.

I rarely hear good things about seibon. Just search seibon horror stories. In fact a member posted his here a few days ago.

I've only seen seibons work and it's not something I would pay for. They mainly make imitations of other manufactures hoods and body kits. You could get a much better product if you bought it from cwest, etc. I saw their cwest replica body kit and the fit had big gapes. There is nothing wrong about having cf even if you don't race. But you should know that you won't save very much weight replacing your aluminum hood. Something you should be aware of is that cf will most likely fade, just take a look at cars that have had it for for a year or so. I think it looks pretty bad when it fades.

Wow, all good to know. It just looks so good brand new on the car, but if you say it will fade and Seibon isn't really a good company, then I have no choice but to take your word for it. Thanks for saving me the time and money! :tiphat:

Anyone else have any thoughts? Or any POSITIVE experience with Seibon?

You can see part of the hood has faded, the shiny gloss is gone. There are a ton of pics of other cf parts on the 350z forum in the mediashare section. I think cf looks great but I would only do small part of the car like the lip.

john, you plan on making any hoods? id be interested

for about six months, then they all start yellowing. :p |
from what I've heard seibon isn't high on quality control. I know someone recently had fitament issues. Concerning the fading...they do recommend on their website that you routinely wax the clear coat and try to keep it away from extended exposure to direct sunlight. There are other companies out there that make cf parts might want to check them out.

one of my friends had a seibon hood and all of the clearcoat started peeling off after about 7 months. not ok.

well you're in texas, intense sun and humidity, no surprise. I think cf can be maintained but ask yourself how much extra effort you want to put in.
