Default Custom Seat Covers

I'm looking to get some custom seat covers for my Z. I bought some caltrend covers for my Tacoma and don't really like the fit.

I'm kinda leaning towards coverking or clazzio.

Do you guys have any recommendations for seat covers? Any feedback would be helpful

Katzkin is a reupholstery kit, not a cover. Just FYI.

I have the Clazzio covers... the passenger seat looks fantastic. The Drivers seat doesn't fit quite as well because of the extra controls on the side keep you from being able to get the cover fully on... Other than that, it looks pretty good. I wonder if its possible to disassemble the controls from the seat to get the cover full on and tight, then punch holes in it from the controls to be put back on.

From leatherseats.com. But actually, they're not covers that go over the original cloth. They take the place of the original cloth.

I did. It's not a walk in the park, but it's do-able.
Seats have to come out. Side air bags have to come out (2 screws hold in each airbag).
Seat bottoms and seat backs have to be removed from seat frame.

Did it come with any instructions? Was the disassembly easy?

I have the Clazzio seat covers but the drivers side doesn't fit all that great because of the additional controls on the left side.... I was thinking I might be able to partially disassemble the seat to get a better fit with the cover.

I've had Katzskin and Clazzio before. The Katzkin is an OEM fabric replacement and first class result. The Clazzio are decent fitting seat covers and actually pretty good for the price, but they aren't OEM results - i.e. you can tell they are covers.

At some point I'll look at Katzkin for the Z, unless I come across a screaming good deal on Persimmon seats and panels.

No, they did not include ANY instructions.
Leatherseats.com has some on-line videos with some general installation techniques, but nothing that specific. But for what you are trying to do I don't think those videos are going to help you.

However, I think there were some videos either here on this site or on You-Tube that show how to remove the seats. That's really what you need to see. It's not that difficult removing the seats: just four bolts (2 in front, 2 in back), and then you can tilt the seat backwards to get access to the electrical harnesses that are all easily disconnected (just be aware of any lock tabs on each harness connector that must be pressed to separate one connector part from its mating part). In this scenario (i.e. just trying to make your covers fit a little better) you don't have to remove the air bags.

Right on... I've removed the seats before and its no big deal. What about removing the plastic base with the controls and stuff from the cushion. That is the part I am not sure about. Is it easy/obvious when you have the seat out?

I didn't remove the plastic side pieces with the controls (manual controls, not power seats). The seat bottom along with its cloth cover can be removed from the seat frame by removing 4 small bolts. The plastic side pieces stay with the frame.
One more thing: use your phone to take plenty of pictures of the harnesses' mounting location and wire routing, etc.
