Love or regret
I just got my z a couple days ago. I know when modding a car it might sound like a good idea at first but after a while you might start to kick yourself. My old car was a sonic so it has enough hp for me...for now. So I was going to start with some visuals. But I wanted to get a feel for what some people have done and love.

A lot of people who go forced induction regret buying bolt-on mods because they're mostly useless.
If I had to do it over, a tune (for that terrible stock throttle lag plus additional fan control) and RJM clutch pedal assembly are the first two mods I would have done.

Turbo install when oil pissed in my turbo..smoked everywhere - felt regret..
installed air suspension and air leaks.. - felt regret. installing a OEM master clutch master cyl , its soggy after a year - feeling regret now, going to but the rjm version. Just giving myself more stuff to worry about... - regret stock is so simple

I can honestly say I fell in love with my car all over again when I went TT.... but make sure you buy a quality kit and get/do a quality installation!

Op first figure out what you want to do first and set a budget. Then multiple that budget by at least 2. IMHO using the search button will help you more than asking for peps opinons on mods. One piece of advice is don't cheap out on parts. Buy once and cry once. A good cheap first visual mod is tinting the windows. A good first mod for your suspension is a stiffer front sway bar. Have fun man.....

Bolt on advise is huge, because I do plan on going tt. So I'll probably just get a tune. But my previous car was a chevy sonic with 2 jlw3 on a 2600 amp. Alpine speakers all around, so I don't know if the speakers are quite stock or of I just need to adjust haha.

Congrats on the new car!
If you plan on going forced induction, be sure to budget for all of the supporting mods you'll need (upgraded clutch, gauges, oil cooler, fuel system upgrades, etc.). It all adds up so quickly!

I've thought about that, I live in omaha and the roads here kind of scare me haha. Maybe a skid plate, how well do those actually help? But I had to drop the car off at the dealership to fix some things under warranty. In the mean time the gave me a base versa for a couple days, and it's speakers put the z's to shame xD

Budget at least half of the cost (new) of the kit for supporting mods and tune. That's not including the 20-30 hours of labor for the install on a TT kit.

That should be your first purchase, followed by sway bars.

The only thing I regret is going to a popular local audio installer, they did such a messed up half assed job I am still having weird electrical issues 5 years later. Almost everything has been replaced that could be found so I hope that's behind me now. I should have done my research beforehand and drove a bit further for a professional shop.
Doing your own Research, Planning and Budgeting will save you time and money in the long run. |
