Question about taking apart door handles for paint.
 

Hi all. Question for anyone who has dismantled their door handles when they painted them.

How do you get the actual handle portion out without breaking /cutting something?

I don't see away on the back of the handle to remove the rod that handle latch pivots on as it doesn't seem to be able to removed from either end.

I thought I would ask first before I start cutting things.

Thanks much Cool. I did do some homework beforehand.

It seems like most people had issues getting the handles off the door.

Since I picked up a spare set no problem there. ha ha.

I just haven't seen any info on how to dismantle the parts so you can paint them separately. (granted some folks are not taking them apart and others are even painting them while they are still on the car.)

Since disassembly didn't seem to a be a challenge for others, I got concerned that I am totally "not getting" something.

I have tried to remove the connecting rod that the handle pivots on and because it is flared at each end it is not possible to pull through without cutting an edge off.

Just wanted to make "measure twice" before I cut anything. - It only took me several decades of life to follow that advice. ha ha.

I also have purchased another pair of handles to paint. I have them apart & it does take drilling the axle at the flared end to remove it. The short post will have to be drilled out also to remove it. Then both pieces have to be drilled & tapped for screws. I have mine all ready to paint just waiting for the heat & humidity to get to an acceptable range.

No issues cutting but wanted to make sure I wasn't making things pointlessly complicated. Sort of like Nissan putting threadlock on screws that are used to secure plastic pieces of the doorhandle.. ha ha
