Rear Bumper Paint Peeling
2 Attachment(s)
Hi,
I have noticed that the paint on my 2016 370z is starting to fail in the seam between the back bumper and rear quarter panel. This is happening on both sides however the drivers side is worse. I have attached some photos. One pic of the driver’s side and the other of the passenger’s side. I believe the car was manufactured Jan 2016. Has anyone seen this before. The car has never seen a pressure washer. I am thinking the bumper may be rubbing against the quarter panel. I have not stopped by the dealer yet. Any idea what they will want to do? Is there such a thing as a Nissan factory pre-painted bumper instead of painting it at a bodyshop? Will there be any difference if they paint it vs original factory paint? Also I have Xpel ultimate on the rear splash guard area. Would it be reasonable for the dealer to re-imburse the cost of the paint protection film? Thanks in advance. |
There are no prepainted bumpers, they will have to take it to the shop, and they should. It's under warranty. Almost makes me think the car was damaged during delivery and they had to fix it. Happens more often then we know.
And yes, they will have to pay for the new Xpel. |
Mine is doing this the dealer took pics and said if it gets worse they have documentation...it's not as bad as yours.

Maybe it's just my eyes, but that looks like left-over protective film (or part of some kind of thin gasket) to me.

If possible please post pics of your paint peeling. Thanks.
I was searching the web and found this: 2016 Nissan 370Z Paint Is Peeling: 1 Complaints Also this older post: http://www.the370z.com/nismo-370z/59...r-repaint.html |
Oh boy, sad to see Nissan still has not fixed this issue, its been around since 2009. I had the exact same issue on my brand new 2014, on the front driver's side. Paint kept peeling off, and make no mistake, it will get worse. I too had expel on my front bumper, and the entire process was a PAIN with Nissan.
At first the local dealer and Nissan corporate both declined helping me, they said it is wear and tear, normal. After persistence on my part, they agreed to repaint that area. They took it to a great shop, it got fixed, and the same issue happened again. This time, they took the xpel off and repainted the whole bumper. Guess what, it peeled off again with new paint on it. The shop advised Nissan to replace the entire bumper as they didn't think they should paint on it for a third time. Nissan turned us down, and I had to fight with them, and their corporate to finally convince them to do the right thing - get me a new bumper and have it repainted with the expel reinstalled. I even complained on their FB page, and launched a complaint to their HQ's. In the end, after much frustration, it all worked out, but it was a 6 month process. At the end, we also decided to put a small layer of double sided 3M paint in between the bumper and the fender, that kept it all together and no problems for 6 months, although I check it weekly. Good luck to you guys, I would recommend you stay the course with Nissan and your dealership, and once the car is painted, put that 3M tape in there so you create some kind of clearance that stops the rubbing. On my front bumper, without having to remove the bumper completely, I can take one screw off and pull the bumper off so I can re-apply the 3m if needed. Sorry for the long email, hopefully it gives you guys an idea on how to handle this, and don't let Nissan get away with it, you spent a lot of cash on your car, make them get it right. |
Both mine and my brother's have/had this issue. Both cars were just purchased by us (obviously), mine built in Jan 2016, his Nov 2015. We thought it might have been caused by the protective film being yanked off, taking the paint with it. Both cars had it on the rear driver's bumper.
My brother had his fixed, bought the car over 3 weeks ago and just took delivery of it this past Wednesday as the body shop is behind about 2 weeks. I'm waiting for them to take mine in and have it fixed as well. |
I have the same issue with my car. I had the dealer fix it last week. It looks like they just used a touch up pen over the flaking paint. Their quick fix lasted less than a week. I have another appointment on Monday. Here is a picture of the dealers handy work. Hate to say it, I am now regretting this purchase and will never buy another Nissan product. Should have saved up a little more and gotten another Lexus.
