Daytime Running Lights

I remember reading somewhere on here that the 370Z came with LED Daytime Running Lights. Does anybody have a picture of this or can point out where on the headlights the LEDs are located?

shumby 01-06-2009 01:12 AM

this will be a Canadian and europ option don't think it will be and american option.

TacoZ 01-06-2009 01:17 AM

Why do Americans always get the shaft when it comes to options? Why don't they just put it in there? They always eventually put it in two or three model years later. Is it so they can add another line to their "What's New for Model Year 20XX?"

There's another reason for me to hold off for the 2nd or 3rd year model...

azn370z 01-06-2009 02:03 AM

You don't want dtrl, they look yellow. If they were leds it would look white.

shumby 01-06-2009 02:05 AM

ya they do look yellow but that is why you change them out to LED's

bossman 01-06-2009 02:07 AM

the LED is located just inside the HID.. it would be sweet if anyone had any close up shots..

Pushing_Tin 01-06-2009 12:04 PM

So does the American car have DRLs? I personally hate them and would be thrilled if they didn't come with them. My IS350 had a menu the tech could go in to and turn them on or off which is a cool way to do it.

shumby 01-06-2009 04:34 PM

I know on the infiniti's that if you bought the car in the states there were no daytime running lights. Cuz a few guys bought them and then shipped them to canada and they had to wire ther DRL's them selves.

Educ8r 01-06-2009 06:05 PM

No DRL's but there is an auto on option, not sure if it's standard or comes with touring.

dave 01-06-2009 06:12 PM

no drl no rear wiper and there asking 30 + for them.these guys arte on crack

I hate the DRL and the wiper looks like azz, I'm really happy these items are gone!

DRLs are ugly. If they were activated, people would be going to the dealer to have them turned off.

bossman 01-07-2009 01:32 AM

why aren't the lights blue for this car (xenon)? they always were and i thought they were gonna stay that way but every shot ive seen them on they've been boring old yellow :(

TacoZ 01-07-2009 01:33 AM

All a matter of opinions just as with the spoiler and colors. I personally like them. I don't like the rear wiper though.

the driving lights have the yello look but the hid's are 4300K white I wil be replacing mine with 6000k just a hint of blue

bossman 01-07-2009 01:46 AM

how do you turn on the HID's? and does every car have them?

sensi09 01-07-2009 01:50 AM

DRLs are different from xenons. DRLs typically run at half or low power thus the yellow light. You could change the DRLs to a whiter bulb, but they will still be a bit yellow due to the low power. They would only show as white or become brighter when you "flash" someone assuming the xenons are not activated during flashing.

I don't like aftermarket additions, but I do like the LEDs found on Audis. A much better solution compared to typical DRLs.

shumby 01-07-2009 01:52 AM

^^^ you will like an ironman mod then for sure.

TacoZ 01-07-2009 01:52 AM

That's exactly what I want. I want LED DRLs like the Audis. If it's yellow and it's not LED then forget it. Not into those.

Some kids in Japan changed the yellow lights to bright white. Take a look at this picture

Looks much better huh?

bossman 01-17-2009 12:41 PM

ak that is sooo dope

OMGWTFBBQ 01-18-2009 02:31 AM

I'd rather have LED's in that vertical chrome strip in the headlight parallel to the hood line.

Crash 01-18-2009 04:00 AM

^^^ That can be done. I'm thinking of doing the same. I'd be rerouting the DRL to that strip if/when I do it.

If someone manages to do that while still keeping a clean setup, I'm definitely interested.

Crash 01-18-2009 04:15 PM

I'm thinking I want BOTH the strip and the current DRL to be on during the day. I'd change the bulb to a Hyper-White LED setup and run smaller hyper-whites to the strip. That way when they're on it will look freaking amazing.

tvfreakazoid 01-18-2009 06:42 PM

What are the drl's?

What will you need to do to get the LED's set up?

Not sure. First I'll need a 370! LOL

I need to pull that housing out and see what materials they used. I'll also need to get some metal work done (I'm terrible with metal work) so we'll see.

tvfreakazoid 01-19-2009 01:14 AM

LOL oh! Damn I thought there was a kit for it.
:p

Do you know any kits for the g37 or 350's to get led headlight set up? Possible something similar to the audi r8.

There are a couple of kits I've seen for the Gs that have LEDs around the head lights that look pretty good. But I have no idea about the Zs. I'd do some searching around on the exterior mod forums. I'm 100% positive we're not the only ones that want to change this.

The Audi's new LED strip they put under the head lights are freaking cool. I don't know if I'd do it to my car though because that's an Audi thing. It's like putting the halo headlights on non-BMWs... Wannabe.

I like to go custom if I'm going to do something. I like to be original and not jock others. That's just my thing though. If you want to do something like that to your car, it's all you! Do what makes you happy.

sensi09 01-19-2009 01:54 PM

The Audi LEDs look great, especially on the road. Not a big fan of adding LED strips though, especially at some of the prices they charge. You could pretty much get an exhaust for the prices they charge for custom LEDs/headlights.

Crash 01-19-2009 10:08 PM

True. That's why you DIY! Go to an electronics store, pick up a set of LEDs (you'll only need about 12 or 14) and get a ballast. Then it's just a matter of drilling and fitting.
