Intake hack

http://www.the370z.com/members/simot...take-z-008.jpg

Hey everyone.... but before u guys start blasting me for being retarded for doing this on my z or it being ghetto.... let me explain myself on why i came to this decision... so the intake was one of the last bolt on parts i have not purchased i was really gonna get the injens but i figured i was just gonna toss them in the future because i decided that i am going to supercharge my z in the future... i wanted to get the drop in filters by hks or k&n in the mean time but i had a friend with a spare intake filter he gave it to me and i figured id do something with it i just bought another intake just like it and did an intake hack..... i am not saying it added horsepower or watever to my z.... because i know im drawing in hot air from the engine bay and on top of that i have no heat sheilds on them.... but it does sound really nice and the throttle feels like it responds much better..... so wat i did was i basically at the very beggining of my air box i jus sawed it off and unbolted the one 10mm bolt pulled the old air boxes straight out and just pop on the cone filters and tightened them.... i installed this at my friends parking lot it took me and my friend about 45 minutes to finish the install and saw off the air boxes.... the cost of this was like 40 if u buy both filters... but was like 20 for me cuz i got the other intake filter for free.... o and it didnt throw a CEL

simota1 11-18-2009 07:39 AM

thanks kdo!!! sure ill do some close up pics tomoro morning..... i had the brace powdercoated....

kdo2milger 11-18-2009 07:44 AM

has there been any issues with the brace finish due to the bay heat

simota1 11-18-2009 07:54 AM

no..... its jus sadly not a dark enough red like our solid red z's.... it was the darkest red the powdercoat guy offered... so i jus got it... the only thing that has gotten affected by the bays heat in my engine bay note... that the color of the engine bay is a faded red.... it wasnt like that faded when i first got the car....

kdo2milger 11-18-2009 07:56 AM

ya, nissan should have clear coated in there...:shakes head:

370Zsteve 11-18-2009 07:58 AM

You should run ducting up to those filters, as in Modshack's DIY. And heat shielding can be fabricated in a metal shop.

simota1 11-18-2009 07:59 AM

yuppp.... it sucks cuz i didnt even know it would fade soooo fast.... it makes me dissapointed cuz the red and the red in the bay dont match and my ocd kicks in makes me wish they left the engine black or something at least if it fades it wouldnt matter....

Cool! So right now your only heat issue is when the car is not moving.

simota1 11-18-2009 08:15 AM

yupp pretty much i guess.... im thinking if i do make the sheilding itll be made out of plastic though so it doesnt get hot? well see....

kdo2milger 11-18-2009 09:48 AM

or aluminum would work to...it dissipates heat quickly...

kenchan 11-18-2009 01:29 PM
