Painted Door Handles?

Hello all,

I'm currently getting my door handles painted by a local body shop in the OEM color to match my car. However, the shop told me since the handles are stainless, they will probably have some longer term issues with holding the paint.

For those with painted handles, have you had any issues with yours peeling or degrading?

Worst comes to worst, I guess I can get them sanded down and repainted if needed in the future. The price to do this is fairly cheap ($75 for the pair), but I'm just curious if anyone has had this problem.

Never heard of this being an issue.

Contact equalme. He has painted many handles.

Stainless? The handles are plastic. Fire your body shop.

I was thinking exact same thing.

Go get your handles back. Drop a deuce on his desk and hire a midget to crotch punch him.

After you do that get a hold of equalme on the forum.

Lol. I thought stainless sounded funny to me...I looked into equalme but he's charging a good 3x what a shop will charge me. If these don't turn out great, I'll just send my other set to him.

Trying to be objective here.

You are putting your faith in a shop that cannot identify the material that they are applying paint to. This would lead me to believe that the end results of their paint job is not going to be great.

While equalme's cost may be 3X higher, it will be done proper. If the jackwagons at the shop screw up your paint, you're out of the money and still have to pay more to equalme. Getting something done right, the first time, with excellent customer service is worth the cost of admission IMO.

Just my couple 'o pennies.

Good luck!

Mine have been painted for a couple of years with no issues at all. Not even a chip

Get your door handles back before it's too late.

It was already too late as of writing this thread originally. However, the guy who told me that turned out to be the desk guy so apparently he just doesn't know any better. Got the handles back yesterday and installed. They turned out great, thank goodness. They even got inside the handles and all. Hopefully they hold up fine, but I'm not too worried.

I'll be honest I'm ready to paint mine but even with all the crap I know how to do, I have no idea how to remove the door handles...

passenger side is easy, it's the drivers side that sucks. There's a DIY on door handle removel somewhere on the site. I used it when I did mine.

It's a pain in the *** but takes about an hour. The hardest part for me was unplugging the electrical cord as its a very tight space and difficult to unplug and plug back in. Other than that, it's pretty simple. There's a guide on the forums that gives you a step by step and instructions on resetting your windows as they will go down automatically.

DeliriousClam 02-25-2016 08:40 AM

got it. I'll see if I can find the guide. Thanks Guys!

There are videos on youtube of folks changing out the handles on the 350z and the idea is basically the same. Watch those and then use the instructions to fill in any blanks you may have left and you'll be set. It's fairly easy, just difficult to mess around with the wire inside of the door since it only moves so much.

First, use a socket wrench to loosen the bolts then use a magnetic tip philip to remove the bolts so they don't fall inside the door. Don't worry about the angled bolt on the driver side as you don't have to remove it.

Second, use an impact driver to remove the screws that hold the lock/unlock button. Warning: without an impact driver, you will strip the screws and you siiirr... will be screwed (get it? lol) and you will need a stripped screw extractor.

Always use an impact driver. This modification is low on my list of to-do's anyway
