Hid bulb modification to make it fit
So I recently had to replace my headlights and bought a pair of D2S 6k bulbs.
At the time of replacing, I noticed the bulbs wouldn't fit until I removed the 2 plastic things(image) that stick out on both sides of the bulbs, Also noticed the previous bulbs also had the plastic things removed. So I removed them and it seem to fit. But now I'm having the flickering issue and I cant exchange the bulbs since its been modified. So Im wondering if it is normal to remove the plastic things or is it just my headlights or maybe I'm doing something wrong?? Please let me know so I can replace my headlights soon The 2 plastic things Im talking about are circled http://www.the370z.com/members/steal...0787-bulbs.jpg |
You shouldn't need to remove anything from the bulbs.
I believe those studs help to keep the sliver twist on box attached. The flickering could be caused by the specific brand your using and it is not uncommon for that to happen. It's more of annoyance more than anything but if they work? Change them out down the road with some quality hid bulbs. EDIT: I bought a set of 6k from iJDMtoy and have had no issues. http://store.ijdmtoy.com |
this has been covered in hid planet, some of these aftermarket bulbs (even some quality bulbs)are having issues with the newest oem ballasts. Can't recall whether it's denso or matsushita ballasts but the best cure is buying Phillips osman oem bulbs which have no issues. Best bulb on the market for color and lumens is CBI bulbs. Although the I spent $200 for a pair of those bulbs.

Phillips or osram. Typo.
