Getting rid of the orange interior lights?

How hard would it be to get rid of every orange interior light, except maybe the HUD? I hate orange, and hate seeing the triple gauge cluster and the normal gauges light up orange every night.

simota1 11-08-2009 02:03 AM

i think digitonium would know the answer to this.... i believe he changed all of his lights and leds inside to white...

Matt 11-08-2009 02:06 AM

Thanks! I'll shoot a PM.

simota1 11-08-2009 02:23 AM

no problem dood

j.arnaldo 11-08-2009 09:12 AM

Blue lighting in the gauges is n-i-c-e! Orange, I just tolerate it, 'cause I don't wanna get involved in a project like that. Nissan could and should vary that, and shift to blue, green...I dunno, any other color.

nogoodname 11-08-2009 09:18 AM

just have to take things apart and solder in new LEDs where the old one was......

Pretty much, have a friend who did this to his Ford Focus, not exactly the same but he did same it took well over a month with doing it a few hours a day.

nogoodname 11-08-2009 09:45 AM

but the cool factor is worth it

what would the dealer say.... lol

j.arnaldo 11-08-2009 11:11 AM

Yeah, if you're young and/or have the time and/or have the desire to do so, I guess you could. Me? I'm 60, and in love with my '04.5 Touring Coupe; I hardly notice her "faults"! Greetings, dudes!

I have the time, but not the patience. I wonder if I can find an audio installation shop that could do something like that for me. I'd probably have to pay a LOT of money. Ugh...it would be worth it though. I f'ing hate orange.

What? you got a Heads Up Display on urs? Damn, I missed out. :D

gleonard 11-08-2009 01:26 PM

it would be easier just to wear some colored lense sun glasses.

simota1 11-08-2009 03:50 PM

:icon18: haha jus wear some heavily tinted blue shades haha  i really dont mind the orange? thats why even if i had the choice of getting the red illuminated plates i still got the oem orange ones to keep everything uniform.... but i will say if u made everything white with some red accents here and there like near the red line of the rpm and other accents i sir would be completely jealous......

simota1 11-08-2009 03:50 PM

ay matt did u pm digitonium?

370ZBLACK09 11-08-2009 04:10 PM

there is a company called LEDMOD (ledmod.com) and the guy that owns it does this type of stuff for a living he has been talking to digitonium to tell him how to do some of the more difficult changes. He is wanting to get a few volunteers in the california area so he can work on them and be able to change them all out. I see that the original poster lives in Georgia so I know this wouldnt be possible for you unless you want to take a long road trip. But as soon as he gets a couple done he will be able to do them and ship them out.
You may want to ask him if he knows anyone closer to you that could do it, just a suggestion

Zsteve 11-08-2009 06:00 PM

Im interested too but want to change my dome lights to blue to match car color. I saw a pic on here that a guy did in blue and it looked really cool.

He just did the two dome lights, trunk light, and the rear license plate light, very easy. He has not done the gauge clusters yet, not sure if he will though.

I'd say, if you have the right LED's for the map light (dome light), license plate, and trunk it shouldnt take more than 15 minutes.

Working with DIGItonium to swap out the door switch panels to blue next! At least thats my goal! Something like what he did here....except I want blue!

But all those have to be soldered with leds? Not just replace bulbs?

He (DIGItonium) has a DIY for the door switches. Here's a link to a thread he set up with links to all the lighting upgrades he's going to do:

Zsteve 11-08-2009 07:50 PM

cool thanks.

simota1 11-08-2009 08:32 PM

Kastley85891 11-08-2009 08:41 PM

Check out Cory at Interior flair in texas DFW area, I got my quote from him to completley 'White' out my interior, very resonable as well, I know from his Subaru work he is very good.

With the map lights, license plates, & trunk you can just do a quick swap. The door switches do require more work. I hoping DIGItonium can help me with mine.

simota1 11-08-2009 11:48 PM

^^^^^^^^ahhhh i was thinking even the switches where jus a swap out.... that''ll be sweet if u change urs to blue..... :D blue lights FTW

Matt 11-09-2009 12:48 AM

Lot of information in this thread...thanks all.

I still haven't PM'd Digi yet, but will. I'm going to contact some local people, as well as a company in Atlanta about the LED switch. I may even inquire with that Texas company. Their site says they can send me the clusters, and I can send the originals back. Man, that would improve my interior by quite a bit.

The trunk and map lights aren't that bad, tbh. I did my license plate LEDs and barely noticed a difference, unfortunately.

simota1 11-09-2009 04:44 AM

no problem dood... did u replace ur bulbs on the license plates from vleds?

Yep. I don't want to make it sound like there was NO difference, it was just not as drastic as I thought it would be. I still don't have my license plates, so it probably would be more noticeable against a white plate vs my cheesy 30 day plastic piece.

DIGItonium 11-09-2009 08:24 AM

Hello everyone... LED work is currently at a stand still since I don't have much time to disassemble various parts of my car to get access to components needing modification. Heck, I don't even have time to enjoy my new Core i5 build. :(

LED work is pretty much a part of my electronics hobby. Taking stuff apart is the most time consuming part of the process. Plus, I don't have spares handy in the event something breaks.

However, I do have plans to work on the key fob and VDC switch next. The gauge cluster will wait when I get more time off. The HVAC will wait until I get some panels CF wrapped. In fact, I scheduled 3 extra days of vacation for Thanksgiving to work on the car, but my gf planned a trip to TX to visit her parents... for an ENTIRE week!

j.arnaldo 11-09-2009 11:06 AM

Just look at those blue beauties!!! Man, you make me green with envy...errr..I mean, blue! N-i-c-e!

Holliday 11-09-2009 03:12 PM

Here is what I did with my G. It took a lot of time and trial and error! It turned out great in the end though.
