Bright License Plate Bulbs

Recently installed diode dynamic LEDs on my license plate. A lot brighter than expected.

Does anyone know if its is legal to have bright bulbs on the license plate in CA? Tried searching but couldn't find a definite answer.

Mine are pretty bright and I haven't had any issues. They don't point toward drivers behind you and if anything just make your license plate easier to see I don't think your gonna have any problems.

Why do you want/need to 'brighten' your lic. plate? Just aesthetics?

LEDs seem to be a lot brighter to me. Not to mention a different color. Mine kind of freaked me out at first, but then I realized I wasn't looking at them when I'm driving. :rofl2:

These are what I bought, and I didn't upgrade them for look or anyting, it was because one was flickering and going out and well with little lights on cars when one goes out the other is close to doing the same

I went with these
194 5K WHITE 6 LED HIGH POWER 360° 180LM | 1 PAIR - 194 158 168 - License Plate Lights - Shop Bulb Type

Yea, it was supposed to be a joke copying the banner ads that are similar.

It just didn't work.

you are okay. alot of higher end cars already come with them. you are more likely to be pulled over for your stock exhaust than your led bulbs.

and diode dynamics is awesome. i ordered all my led lighting and 6000K hid bulbs from them and look great!

Good thing I don't have the stock exhaust on. One less thing to get pulled over for! lol jk.

hmmm, yikes, now you are more likely to get pulled over for your led bulbs. forget the aftermarket exhaust, the led bulbs are a bigger infraction.

quick question, I'm on dioded dynamic website and I have 4 choices of bulb type, which one you guys went with for the license plate light?

Bright License Plate Bulbs

just go to autozone and get the Sylvania 194 led's.
might have been a fluke but all 4 of my 194 wedges from diode dynamics lasted less then a year on my last car
but that was 4 years ago so maybe they fixed the problem

i got mine from autozone, though they were like $10/bulb.
