Fully round vs square-ish steering wheel, alcantara vs leather
So its been a couple of months with the car. I love it, the first thing I want to change (if it doesn't involve breaking the bank) is the steering wheel. The problem is, the sport steering wheel has sharp edges at the 4 o clock and 8 o clock positions, and thats where I tend to hold it when cruising. Not very comfortable. Also, the surface is kind of hard and slippery.
I don't want to get something aftermarket that won't fit the airbags and buttons, also not a fan of carbon fiber on the wheel alone (if I was redoing my whole interior with CF thats a different matter). I was looking at pictures of the Nismo wheel that has alcantara and its fully round. Thats on the current Nissan website. But I was also able to find some pics of the squared off Nismo wheel. Does it come in two different shapes, or did it change for a particular model year? I'm thinking the fully round alcantara wheel (if I can find it) will fix both my problems, any other suggestions? Anyone else feel uncomfortable with the stock wheel shape and surface? Note: I am coming from a BMW leather Msport wheel thats super comfortable to hold so my impressions may be biased. |
the z has only ever come with a fully round wheel. 14+ nismo has the alcantara/leather combo, it runs about $800 from nissan.

My bad, I think. I googled images and i think one of the images I saw might've been a Juke or something Nismo that looks exactly like the Z wheel. Any experience with the alcantara Nismo wheel, is it worth the upgrade? I'm not super anal about this, I'm just wondering. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
I'm a big fan of the NISMO wheel... The alcantara feels great in the hand... Definitely more premium. I'm usually on the nubs at 10 & 2 but I like that it still has some leather at top & bottom. I find myself going one handed up top a lot (probably subconsciously trying to not ef-up the alcantara lol)

If nismo wheel is what you want they can be had for a lot less than the 800 shown above. Usually around $550new. Or if you want the flat bottom type then there are many places around that will modify your current wheel. I believe carbon fiber element on here modified your wheel with whatever materials/style you would like.

Nismo wheel with alcantara is very comfortable and grippy.

The 2014+ 370z NISMO wheel seems to be priced around $900. The Juke NISMO RS wheels appears to be exactly the same, but is around $550.
Any reason the Juke wheel won't fit? http://cdn.carwitter.com/wp-content/...-carwitter.jpg |

That's what I was wondering too. From google images I confused juke Nismo wheel for Z Nismo wheel. I wonder if it's a direct fit. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Not sure I'll be spending on a new wheel + airbag though. |

I bought my 2015 Nismo wheel from rhdjapan.com. Came to about $400 with shipping. I like it a lot more than the stock wheel.
