Default Would you buy this for your Z

Weathertech apparently makes headlight protection clear film. They don't make it for the Z yet but I did submit a request to see if they would make one. How many of you all would buy this if it were available? I checked on some other cars and it's ~$50.

edit: after getting some good advice and researching a bit more, it sounds like this may be a BAD idea.

Depends. When I had my Z, it didn't see a lot of miles and was garaged - not much need for extra protection. If one does a lot of driving, parks in the Sun, &c, it might be a good idea.

Hmmmm, I was going to have my headlights wrapped/protected on Thursday using the Xpel product. Is this a bad idea or is the pic just reflective of a bad DIY install? (Or a product of poor quality.) My car is a DD.

It looks like HID headlights run too hot and the clear film doesn't allow the headlights to dissipate heat properly which causes the fractures to occur. I don't think I'll be getting these....

Highly unlikely.

All of my vehicles have clear bra and, within the "package", headlights are covered as well. The installer is a very good friend of mine and he is more than able to free-hand headlight protection film for a much better coverage than any pre-cut kit; going with Weathertech (or any other pre-cut kit) headlight protection film would be both a downgrade and an insult.

I had Xpel on my headlamps on an old hobby car and it was fine. But I rarely drove that car at night especially in the winter.

I think the fractures has something to do with the thermal expansion and contraction.
I have thick tint film on my dd's tail lamps. Those have not shown any sign of failure. Had them on 3yrs through harsh winters.

Default Xpel

The headlamps on my Z have Xpel film on them.
I couldn't be bothered to open the link. Is this stuff about the same?

What a bunch of BS.....With that logic you'd get fractures if you left your lights on with your car in park for any length of time or just left them on for extended periods of time, even while driving. Film would still allow the lamp to dissipate adequate heat. If it's that close to fracturing just because of a piddly thin layer of film it's gonna happen without any film.
Barely merits a response.
