Question about vented hoods

i wanna buy a carbon fiber vented hood for my z but question is, does it increase any hp? If so how much? And how much for it new and used?

cooltoy 07-30-2015 11:48 PM

Vents can't create more horsepower. They might prevent some of the existing horsepower to be lost by taking hot air our of the engine, but they need to be in the right places for that .

Trips doesn't like horse powers either :icon17:

You'll need a bunch of stickers to get that horsepower you're looking for.

????

Heat robs horsepower. That's why you put an intercooler on a turbo.

That's what he just said. Vents do not inherently create horsepower, they create cooler temperatures to allow the engine to perform without as much horsepower being compromised due to extra heat in the engine bay.

My mistake. I guess I read it kind of sideways.

This thread had potential :(

Be sure to do lots of research before you pick one up. I have a seibon hood and I would give it a 7/10. If I had to do it again I would pick up a better brand, but that usually entails a higher $. Do lots of homework before buying.
Mine ran about $600 shipped.

That's around my price range but can spend more. How much would a good brand cost with carbon fiber used and are they often sold used?

Zbrah 07-31-2015 04:45 PM

You're better off putting that money toward something else that yields better gainz. What mods do you currently have?

madwi 07-31-2015 04:46 PM

Check out this thread:
http://www.the370z.com/exterior-inte...od-thread.html
and check out these other search results:
https://www.google.com/#q=site:the370z.com+vented+hood
That will get you started and might give you an idea of what style you would like and then you can check out the manufacturers and start PMing vendors ect.

Or just buy this one and be done...:tiphat:

cooltoy 07-31-2015 09:20 PM

Most CF hoods will not be lighter then stock.

Really? I thought the (main) point of a carbon fiber hood was weight reduction.

It is if it's "dry carbon".Most aftermarket hoods are a wet layup. The only commercially available light weight CF hoods are the Amuse hood, and the Varis VSDC hood. Both are $$$$$$.

*Keep in mind the factory hood is made from aluminum and relatively light weight to begin with.

cooltoy 08-03-2015 10:56 PM

Exactly.

If you were to compare the average CF hood with a steel hood, it is lighter, but not so much when compared to our aluminum hood.

Hotrodz 08-03-2015 11:14 PM

My Fugi hood is about the same weight as the oem. The oem is pretty damn light, the only issue is finding someone to cut holes in your oem and if you don't like it you are SOL. It just easier to buy a gorgeous CF hood if you got the cash. :p

This is a sweet looking hood not only from the outside but the finish on the inside is clean as well. The vents have some form of gutter to it. But since you are in land where it rarely rains, it is not an issue.

edliaszenik 08-04-2015 12:58 AM

Yard house is my favorite spot on island. I didn't know it was a chain.

Just to make sure people are aware, Seibon does Dry carbon for the 370Zs also, And has a hatch available.

cooltoy 08-04-2015 02:55 PM

$1800 and no vents.

tonythetiger 08-04-2015 08:45 PM

is there a way to make our own vents with the stock hood??

Hotrodz 08-04-2015 10:15 PM

Sure there are a few on here that have done it. Djtodd for one has done it. You can also order vents from Carbon Signal and have them installed. All things are possible with money or skill and the tool to knock it out!
