Need help wiring demon eyes

I just had my headlights done with black housing and red demon eyes. I have a remote to turn on and off the eyes with a receiver wired to the lights. The person who had them done for me told me to wire the lights straight from the battery, is this a good idea? I started writing it up today but before I could wire the headlights to the receiver that was already connected to the battery I could feel the receiver getting hot. Kinda worried my car will end up catching fire. Any help???

You can wire it to the running lights and if you don't want them on all the time wire in an in line switch
