does the rear hatch contact the rear bumper?
 

Strange question, I know..

I was detailing my ride recently and whilst cleaning the rear bumper with the hatch lid open I noticed a few light marks on either side of the bumper where the edge of the hatch lid comes close to it. Just above the 370z logo and also the other side. Looking up at the open hatch lid I could just about make out a slight mark in same size to where it contacts the bumper. It wouldnt show in pictures hence none attached.

Weird thing is, when I close the hatch lid it does not appear to contact the bumper at all, even if I press hard on it when closed.

Could it be an object/debris stuck in the space for a short period then fell off?

If you lift the bumper cover, does it move much?

air drag on bumper could lift it. it's like a parachute back there.

yes it does. the springs on the hatch aren't very stiff so the hatch bounces a smidge. i remedied this by buying new, taller plastic bumpers where the springs on the hatch contact the rear of the car. i have extra's if you want to pay for the stamp. i can take a pic tonight

for dat, cant u just use a clear rubber shoe for electronics? .. :ugh:

Ive already covered this area with clear bra. I was talking about the top horizontal area of the rear bumper coming into contact with the edge of the hatch lid.

Either way, was curious to know as the gap when closed is pretty large so probably the rear bumper moves up at certain speeds I dont know.. Hence the question.

I applied some small pieces of clear bra to effected areas as to not go through the clear coat over time.

There is also a few areas in the engine bay and fenders that hood rub on which I took care of also. But they are more normal compared to the one I posted .


EDIT. Im a dumbass, should have read your post more carefully. I see what you mean now.

The reason why I jumped to my response above was that the actual rubber spring holder marks the paint there also. Which I applied a clear bra to. However your modification allows / prevents the tailgate from having any place once closed I am thinking.
