Discoloured DRL '13
 

Hey guys, just noticed something off on my 2013 Z.

I pulled up to my parking spot and noticed that the passenger side Led DRL has a different colour temperature compared to the driver side Led DRL.

Passenger side has a faint yellow glow, while the driver side is white.

Passenger side appears brighter just because of the angle of how the picture was taken.

I checked the housing for both DRL's and didn't notice any wrong inside.

I currently have the DRL mod installed where they are always on even when the main headlights turn on.

How long have you had the mod? My 2014 has 8600 miles or so and I haven't noticed any discoloration and I've been driving like this for at least 6000 miles or so. My rationale is there's a good population of owners of this car (read: old ppl) who don't drive it at night so their DRLs are probably on at least 75% of the time anyhow

B2B warranty should cover it. How did you do the mod? I cut the two wires in the junction box and tapped them to some always-on spot.

double checked my wires today and it was fine.

Btw would the dealer know that I have this mod installed if I take it in?

They are aging , well one is sooner than the other.

As Limeybastard stated, it could be aging. LEDs get dimmer over time, and also as it gets hotter. LEDs are binned by color temperature since not all LEDs are alike due to various factors in production. I peeked at the LEDs, and I think its Luxeon Rebel:

You may have a high resistance connection/splice that is causing reduced voltage to one side. Check voltage at lamps - if a big difference, look for a bad connection(s).

Ninja Edit: Check voltage when lights are on. No current flow = no voltage drop.

troubleshoot by reversing the mod. You'll have a better idea of what's going on after determining whether or not mod wiring is responsible.
