Safely removing dealer decal from paint
 

How do I go about safely removing the dealership decal that they stuck to the back of the car? It's on the paint under the 370z emblem. TIA.

Had I thought about it I would have said "slap a decal on that paint and I don't sign the papers".

Yeah i hate that too, my z came with a badge under my 370z emblem, good thing it was crappy glue it came off easy.

It should come off without ripping paint. GL.

Try "goo gone" I used it to debadge my last car and it worked well. After the lettering was off,I sprayed it on,let it sit for a bit on the remaining adhesive and than started wiping it off. I had to wipe and repeat a few times,but it got the job done. You might get some ghost lettering depending on how long the decal has been on.

light application of heat gun (or leave it out in the sun a little), and pickup the edges of the decal with your nail. then pull off.

if this is a new car no issue.
if this is a used car or re-painted bumper, then your entire bumper will pull off the car as you pull off the decal :ugh:

then a light application of wax will remove the rest of the residue.

if the adhesive separated from the decal, then use a soft microfiber towel and either googone or WD40 to remove the adhesive. if you have a plastic razor blade that will speed up the process.

then clean the area with soap or rubbing alcohol, reapply wax.

then stick the removed decal on your dumbarse neighbor's car.

Everything Kenchan said with the exception of the heat gun. A hair dryer on the high heat setting works just fine.

You may be able to remove the decal without any heat.

i used fishing line, basically starting at one end and worked my way through to the other end. there was that sticky residue left over, which i used a gunk remover and rubbed off the sticky stuff.

Decal is way easy ---- super easy. Hair dryer will do. If you want to take your badge out too, you should spray the badge with water. Get a pc. of plastic spray one side and put wet side over the badge. Tape the edges. Leave it under the sun for 20-25 min. The adhesive softens up and should be super easy to take off at that point. Trapped heat and moisture trick. Did this to take off tint from my previous cars.

Thanks. I searched but used the word decal and was not having much luck.

I just looked at it closer. It's not just a decal. It's a laser cut- every letter and stripe is it's own "sticker". This should be fun. NOT!

Return to the dealer and ask to have it removed. Liability is not on you if the decal lifted a piece of paint.
