Sigh.....silly iPad
So about a month ago as I was on a 6 hour road trip with a buddy, he really wanted to watch The Masters on his iPad.
For whatever reason he decided to just set it above the shifter and let it rest against the radio instead of setting it in his lap. When we arrive at our destination I see that over the course of the trip the bottom of the iPad has rubbed the paint off the trim around my shifter. Now, obviously it's pretty small but it really bugs me. Everything else in the car is immaculate so I'd like to do something about instead of letting it bother me out of the corner of my eye every time I drive. My question is do you think I could find some sort of touch up paint for that plastic trim or would it look like crap? Otherwise I'll just order a new trim piece to go around it which I am sure is worth about $11 but the stealership will charge me a couple hundred. |

I considered that cooltoy but that would mean I'd have to do the rest of the interior trim in it. Think I am gonna keep the inside stock for now. Thanks for the advice though.

If it is just "the surface" you should be able to touch up, a bit of polish and done deal. If it is "deep" or heavily scratched then is going to be harder to make it look as good as new.
And I understand and feel your pain. I'm very careful with my things as well and I love everything in stock form. If wanted to do mild or wild transformations I would have bought an used base model in order to change/replaced just about anything.

Couple of suggestions...
There has to be a paint code out there for the interior trim. There are a couple of spray paint manufacturers that work off these codes and sell cans direct to the public. Get an can of the silver and a can of satin clear pull the shift housing off sand down that chip rinse with h20 and pressure air dry. Spray a super light dusting coat of the silver in a ventilated area free of dust and particles in the air wait 15 minutes then repeat... Then repeat again.... Then repeat again... Then if you're not to high on fumes go ahead and spray a light coat of clear then repeat a couple more times. Or do what cooltoy said and buy an awesome cf bezel for the shifter!!!

I painted mine KAD to match my car's paint. Cost was about $25 worth of supplies, but the supplies were good for much more than just this one project

Someone on "370Z Parts For Sale" facebook page is selling one for $75. Just scroll down a little and you'll see the picture. Or click on for sale posts at the top of the page and you won't have to scroll down as far.
