Rear-ended by fat kid in a Civic

A couple of weeks ago I was waiting for a school bus to finish unloading when a fat kid in a 2000 Civic rolled into the back of me. Of course he had no insurance and for some inexplicable reason kept calling me "dawg".
"You can't take my picture dawg - that's illegal! I know my rights!"
Didn't do a lot of damage but the fascia will have to be replaced - it is dinged, cracked, and sheared off the mounts. The repair cost per the estimate is $1500 for new fascia, emblems, and two-tone paint. I could file with my insurance and get a replacement Nismo fascia or I could pay for it myself and go with aftermarket.

I searched but none of the offerings had any appeal to me over the OEM. Anyone that has in mind an exceptionally epic bumper please do share a link or photo.

damn sorry to hear that...did you get a police report?

A lot of people like the amuse front..or 2015 nismo is becoming very popular as well

Insurance company would cut you a check and couldn't care any less whether you put stock, Nismo, tyte-jdm stuff, or a 2x6 to replace it.

sue the bastard! Hate when this happens. I would file it under your insurance. But then it will likely go up a bit.

Once I heard he had no insurance, I insisted. That's when I took a pic of him and he became irate and called 911.

I agree, but that's not the issue - it's whether I want to file a claim and risk elevated premiums. My daughter was recently in an accident and I'm pushing my luck, so ideally I'd rather not file a claim.

Thanks, I will certainly check them out.

EDIT: Looked at their site and only saw one bumper but not OEM.

Wtf, HE became irate?

If I recall correctly, if the other driver does not have insurance and it was his fault, your insurance company doesn't raise your premium, however, you are out of pocket for the deductible. You might want to speak to your agent just to find out.

i'm an underwriter... your rates should not go up for something that's not your fault... if they do, find another insurance company... someone hit me several years ago that didn't have insurance... i filed a claim with my insurance company and they paid for the repair minus my deductible... they then went after the uninsured motorist and sued for their money back... first check they cut was back to me to reimburse me for my deductible... driving without insurance is against the law and people should have to suffer the consequences

Usually these cases don't raise your premiums

Are you concerned about future vehicle value? I'd pay it out of pocket if you're concerned about it. An accident on carfax could drop your value far more than $1500.

I hope not. I have USAA which is a good company. I plan on discussing my options and consequences with them.

I agree that chubs should be given a ticket. He called his "mom" and she sent a photo of the insurance card and he showed it to the officer. Turns out he's not covered under her policy. There should be additional penalties for deception. Be nice if the coverage and eligible drivers/vehicles could be verified on the spot.

This happened to me before when a lady rear ended my truck. She paid her first month premium and when she received her ID card she cancelled the policy, but still had the ID to use all year.

A non-issue for me.
