Weights:
Stock seat with brackets: 42 lbs Sparco w/bride brackets: 49.5 for a net gain of 15 lbs. Keep in mind, the Sparco is a high end street seat with all the adjustments, not a race shell. Bride brackets alone are 9.5 lbs so they're no lightweights either.. I was surprised at how light the stock seats actually are. My old Audi seats weighed in at 52lbs + Bracket adapted to the Sparco with no problems: First seat in with no issues, passenger side tomorrow. On the airbag light, I jumpered the plug with a 4.7 Ohm resister. Made up a pigtail by cutting the connector off the stock seat instead of jamming the resistor into the car side plug. It can always be re-attached to the stock seat if I go back. Worked great...No light: Last edited by Modshack; 10-14-2009 at 04:33 PM. |

You guys don't care about losing the side airbags? Just curious.

Well I've been in an accident severe enough to trigger airbags, and I want all the airbags I can get. But that's not my main concern. My main concern is liability. Insurance companies love having reasons to deny claims. Can't you see them denying a claim because you removed a safety device? My biggest concern would be liability to a passenger. Imagine you have a co-worker in the passenger seat (going out for lunch or whatever) and get hit from the passenger side. Your passenger is severely injured, or worse, dies. It comes to light that you removed a side-impact airbag. It's not much of a stretch to foresee your passenger's next of kin hiring an ambulance chaser to hit you with a wrongful death or negligence suit, claiming (rightly or wrongly) that but for your removal of that airbag, your passenger would still be alive or less severely injured. Making matters worse, you might have to deal with some low-life insurance adjuster refusing to back you up on account of you removing a safety device. Anyway, to each his own. I'm not trying to case aspersions on anyone for choosing to upgrade the seats or anything like that. I guess I'm just paranoid about the liability thing and was wondering if anyone else has considered this angle.

The great majority of cars on the road to day DO NOT have side airbags. New cars often have them as extra cost OPTIONS. They are not mandated by law. It's not anything I'll lose sleep over...YMMV. Last edited by Modshack; 10-14-2009 at 06:19 PM. |

That's not relevant. Insurance companies factor in the number of airbags your car has (among a laundry list of other things) when they come up with your rate. So if you start removing safety devices, they can argue that your car is essentially no longer the car they agreed to insure. It doesn't matter that other cars don't have them. But like I said, to each his own. We all choose to take risks in life. I probably take some risks that you wouldn't choose to take as well. I don't feel the need to call you a "wimp" or "scared" on account of that.

Sorry if you missed the Joking sarcasm.......The way the world is going these days, no one wants to take responsibility for their own actions anymore..There are more ambulance chasing lawyers in this town than I can count....Guess I was just brought up differently... I'm already paying $500 more a year for a cheaper slower, less expensive car than the Corvette I sold to get it....They're already screwing me because of the demographics of this vehicle. If you think I'm worried about them you're crazy... Last edited by Modshack; 10-14-2009 at 07:21 PM. |

Tell me about it...The Vette is an insurance rated old mans car, The Z is a kids car, So even though I'm old, I get the benefit of paying for the typical high risk Z driver. Yeah, it does suck... |
