*NEW* Fringe XVO "Afterburner" Exhaust Tips

Below are pics of prototype exhaust tips designed specifically for the 370z (platform includes 350z and G35/37s as well). These are being born and built in Austin out of 304 stainless, and are 100% laser cut and tig welded. I guarantee their construction for life. Retail pricing is approx $175 not including tax (if applicable), shipping, or custom coatings (powder or black/silver chrome). Existing tips will have to be cut off and these fit and welded in their place. Inner tube is designed to tightly slip over the 2.5" existing exhaust tubing. This is the first feeler and public announcement globally. I will update with pics on a Black 370 in NY very soon. I want to know what your thoughts and feelings are. Thanks all!

These look like the exact same tips you guys posted up on the GT-R forum that were designed "specifically for the GT-R."

FringeXVO 08-24-2011 03:00 PM

They are the same concept, but redesigned specifically to fit the 370z. Consequently they should also fit the other cars that share the platform. For example, here is the GTR tip next to the Z tip. While similar, they are very different. Personally, I like the Z version better.

Interesting design. I would like to see how these actually look on a Z.

Jamaica 08-24-2011 05:53 PM

I like the gtr tips. Price is 175 each?

christian370z 08-24-2011 06:10 PM

Those are definitely unique and in my opinion, I think they are actually pretty cool! In for Econ's pictures.

Ish 08-24-2011 06:41 PM

Not bad at all. They look just like the nozzles on GE F404s on F-18s.

happytheman 08-24-2011 07:10 PM

Hmmm, I'm on the fence here. In for installed pics tho.

No sir, the GTR tips are $399.99 for a set of 4. Z tip price is $175 for the pair.

Perhaps a little introduction is in order…
Here's a little bit about what XVO is NOT about:

It’s NOT about money. It’s not motivated by money, or fame, or ballerism. It’s not about cutting corners. It’s not about exploitative foreign labor. It’s not about greed. It’s not about me owning nice things. It’s not about being looked up to or respected. It’s not about cheating, dishonesty, or excuses.

What is it about?

Fringe XVO is about pushing the envelope.
It’s about taking it to the next level.
It’s about what every motorsports enthusiast is about… passion.
It’s about breaking through boundaries and tearing down walls.
It’s about doing things that have never been done before.
It’s about doing it right.
It’s about education. It’s about research. It’s about math.
It’s about creativity and experimentation.
It’s about finding out what works and what doesn’t.
It’s about doing great things.

I'm glad everyone so far appears to at least be interested. This is different…when everyone else is just going bigger and bigger and bigger so that it looks like sewer pipes are coming out the back…these taper in. They are detailed. They are precise. I think it grows on you. I know it's not for everybody, and that's how it goes...no worries.
I want to thank Econ for his patience and faith in Fringe. I know I'm a brand new face on this block and thus, have everything to prove. You will not be disappointed.

I was about to say, these look like fighter jet engine nozzles... :rofl2:

Now we just need a set that opens/closes based on throttle position... that would be wicked... :icon17:

Nice idea Chris!

I am going to make a set that actually shoots conical blue flames...propane injected...sooner or later. I have some experimenting to do with colors and shape first. :) A total novelty, but it will be a sweet video, lol!

Oh god, don't post it here... You'll be swamped with orders. :rofl2:

UNKNOWN_370 08-25-2011 07:47 AM

It is different, I must say. The design looks very specific, in the sense that, the mods you choose will really affect how nice or sh1tty these will look??? I applaud your drive, enthusiasm and creativity. But I need pics with them actually on a Z to really get an idea of what I feel about them?

That would be freaking awesome! Need to get a video of that running down the drag strip :icon17:

If they are going on Econ's Z, don't you need to paint the inside yellow? At least for a while, then change it to purple.

XwChriswX 08-25-2011 09:20 PM

Now are these meant to go on 'any' exhaust after removing their tips? Or is this going on an exhaust to be built coming soon? I'm not sure people are going to be excited to cut off their tips... Unless they get the types of exhausts that have removable tips to begin with?? :icon08:

That's what I was wondering. I think it will require cutting tips though.

Econ 08-25-2011 10:22 PM

yes, these will require cutting of your stock tips.

hmmmm here's my opinion. I think those would be wayyyy too overboard for a mostly stock z with stock tips. Imo, to successfully pull that look off, u will need a lot of supporting visual mods. Else, the tips alone will come off as cheesy and trying too hard to get attention for the wrong reasons.

RCZ 08-25-2011 11:35 PM

they look like the Carrera GT's

These are designed to fit aftermarket 2.5" exhausts like the ARK system that Econ is currently using. I haven't seen an aftermarket OR stock exhaust system for the Zs that utilizes a removable tip design. Unfortunately this leaves any customers to have to have a shop remove and install the new tips. If there is enough demand (I don't need much) I will make a version that can fit onto other size piping, like whatever size the stock exhaust uses, for example. As I understand, one of the first upgrades people make to the Zs is to change the exhaust. I decided that if someone is willing to change their exhaust, they are going to be much more wiling to install different tips than someone who buys a car and puts up the fuzzy dice and calls it good....so I built these to fit the aftermarket crowd's needs. I plan on talking to the exhaust companies about possibly getting tips from me for their systems, but it is way too soon for me to expect any of them to agree. I have to generate demand first.

XwChriswX 08-25-2011 11:46 PM

The Akrapovic exhaust uses 2 different removable tip options, CF or Brushed Ti.
They would be a good company to look into perhaps... They are big in the motorcycle exhaust world too which I think if you could make a smaller version, you might get a lot of interest from them as well as they love to make their bikes as fast as jets anyways.

Already done. Coater was miffed. :)

I just sent an inquiry to Akropovic, since none of their documentation shows the exit tube diameter. Their tips have a slightly larger outer diameter (125mm vs. 114.3mm), and if they use 2.5" tubing, then the Afterburner tips will slip fit and clamp right on, with cutting slits in the clamping tube being the only modification needed (I may just laser cut this mod in advance and make it an option when you purchase). I'll let you know as soon as they contact me.

The GTR version are already clamp-on, and of course I would prefer this for the other Z exhausts. For example:
http://i54.photobucket.com/albums/g9...elopment14.jpg

The Z version that has a little extra tubing so it can be trimmed to stick in or out as much as you want it to, and is slip on and WELD, like the tips that have to be removed. For example:
http://i54.photobucket.com/albums/g9...ypeset0114.jpg

Thanks Chris!
