Put Amsoil tranny fluid in and it will be 100% better. I have used in my Jag and 350z and 370z and it was night and day. I actually had issue putting the shifter into 1st gear when i bought my Jag it was so bad and after the flush and change to Amsoil all gears felt perfect and were good for 50k miles on the same fluid and then i sold it.

You're not alone. I had the same issue, changed oil to redline MT-85 and it still did the same thing. Turns out the problem was me. I got used to the transmission and now it shifts like butter.

Yeah, I don't get all the concern about the Z's gearbox. I think it's fine. I've probably had over 20 different manual cars and the Z has one of the easier shifting gearboxes. Sure, it is not as buttery smooth as my BMW was, but it seems fine to me. Maybe I just got a good one.

On some threads on here there are reviews for switching to redline fluid for the tranny. Some people posts they like it and others didn't because it made the gearbox worse. Some said they went back to oem. I don't have time at the moment to post a link, but I can tonight.

I've read all the mixed opinions on transmission fluid. Some say redline is very good some say it's crap. Others suggest to stay with OEM. And there is something to do with the thickness and temperature. And why there hasn't so many people tried Motul Gear 300 yet? Is it not good?

I love the gearbox and shifter. Wouldn't change a thing on it. The clutch feel took a little longer than usual to get used to but I'm about 5 months into ownership and it's like any other manual car now.

took my Z to the dealership because second was crunchy when cold and they are replacing it under warranty. i also bought a z1 clutch so that means free clutch install!

i had stock oil from 0 to 15k, then switched to redline from 15k to 35k, then the motul from 35k to 50k. i feel like both redline and motul felt better when the fluid was put in, but over time it went to how it felt when i had stock oil. i'll probably go back to motul when i get my car next week. i also have it in the diff.
