Trans clutch/fly install
 

Mother #$!@#$!@$! stupid crapper!!! I'm close to dropping the trans but can't get the friggin crankshaft position sensor off!! That crap is a mother to reach let alone remove the clip to the sensor. My hands are all scratched now. Hot are you guys getting to it. I have my car in hover mode ( jack stands sitting on cinderblocks with wood).

I'm at the past after removing the starter.

WTF? I just did a clutch install a year ago and I do not remember removing the crankshaft sensor.. Based off the picture in the link, I know for a fact I didn't touch that. Hopefully someone else can chime in.

All I know is that I'm friggin frustrated as a mofo right now. I cant even get the sensor to un-clip. I kinda traced the line the connect to the sensor and it's real short. It's about 6'' short and connect the a bunch of wires right on top of it. I planned to do the trans today then the diff tomorrow. I guess not.

Are you suppose to take the sensor completely off or just unclip it from the harness?

I'm not sure. Once I unclip it I will have a better idea. I can't even do that. I'm reaching around and pressing every side. I'm freezing in my garage fiddling around under my car. I have plenty of space under my car but I could use more. I have 4 jack stands on top of 2x8 blocks over cinder blocks. My car is about 2' off the ground.

I'm about to crawl under my car again in a bit. I just wan to drop the trans tonight... grrr..

Have you tried getting at it from the top?

FSM should have R&R procedures.

Ok.. now I know what you guys are talking about. You only have to un clip it from the harness. It is a pain to get to, but I was able to reach up and get it. And yes, if you have small enough hands I believe you can get it from the top through the engine bay.

MOTHER F-IN VICTORY!!! I got that ho!!! I also got the front trans cover thing out and cracked loose the 4 bolts on the bottom. I only have the big one on the sides and top, disconnect the rubber to metal line and I think she can slide out. I'm done for the day. This freeking car is hard to work on. No space at all for anything. JEBUS!!!

The top 2 bolts on the bell housing are the hardest to reach. You are going to need a swivel joint along with some other long extensions. Once you get those 2, everything else is a piece of cake.

I bought the 2 pack wobble socket form Harbor F. The thing rocks!! Works splendidly. Did you get like 2.5' of 1/2 extension or what? I don't have that much if that's the route I need to take. I'm just so friggin scared of rounding out a darn bolt, especially the ones I can't see.

You should use some 6pt impact sockets. I can't remember but I think I had used a 10" extension... maybe even longer. The top bolt on the passenger side was the hardest to reach.

go and buy a single long extension, an impact one if the budget allows. Less joints = less slop = less wasted sweat.

The crank sensor is notorious for making your arms look like an emo kid's. it's the coarse finish on the side of the gearbox that munches up your arms. I have small arms and even then it's a struggle. The only way i've done it before is from the bottom. It's too far down to reach from the top. What i do is work blind and fit the socket on the bolt head, then jam a stubby ratchet on. much easier instead of wasting extra energy trying not to drop a ratchet in your face!
