Anyone on here have any helpful information on who builds bulletproof manual transmission for our cars. I've been reading when building a Z either with F.I. or road racing purposes

Do the clutch and trans fluid and you should be fine. These trannies are pretty stout.

Actually, I haven't heard of anyone losing a transmission that wasn't a factory defect in some way.

So whats the best option if your tranny is grinding (say going in 5th), do you just buy a new tranny from Nissan or buy OEM syncros and rebuild it?

Are you still running OEM fluid? If so, try changing that out first. Will make a pretty big difference.

Ya it was really bad and I did the fluid change made a big difference. But sometimes its just a pain in the a$$ to get it in fifth under WOT. Just something I am thinking about for later if it breaks.

Rebuilding a transmission is (was) not a difficult job but it nearly always involves special tools. Back in The Good Old Days, we could buy kits with a full set of synchros/bearings/seals/&c and the special tools. A modern 6-speed tranny is probably a lot more complicated than the toploaders and such that I worked on so it may be a job for a pro nowadays.

Actually, isn't that the kit to put a 370z tranny on a 2jZ? Plus, the last time I priced a Supra Getrag it was damn near $6k.

Also, thanks for that. I've got a 2jzge powered vehicle and that looks like something I might need to buy.

You are correct with the 2JZ motor attaching to the 370 trans. I didn't read it carefully. 6 grand for a transmission fml

yeah and that's 6k not even counting a clutch. On top of that what kind of issues are you going to run into with the car mating a mechanical Getrag v160 trans up to an all electronically monitored car?
