Loud click noise from rear, when shifting park to reverse or drive in auto 370Z
Can some one pin point what my issue is?? I've been searching online and through the forums and can't really figure out what it is when ever I shift into drive or reverse on my 09 Auto 370Z. I hear a loud click noise coming from the rear of the car whenever I shift my Auto Z from park to reverse or park to drive. The 370 drives fine but the loud click noise is bugging me every time I shift gears. Sometimes the click pops up when I'm coming to a stop at a light. I heard it might be the axle that needs some grease???? Brakes?? Thanks for your help.

It could be...
1. Shift cable linkage -- check on lift. 2. e-brake linkage -- there's a write up on this, but I think rear wheels have to come off to inspect. 3. Rear axle -- how many miles on car since diff fluid changed? Unless its been well over 36K since the diff fluid was changed, I'm betting on one of the first two. It could be something random like a rattling exhaust shield too. Whatever it turns out to be, I highly doubt its anything serious if you have no other symptoms, but worth having a look with the car on a lift.

DE.50 is probably right if the sound is a click and you don't feel it. If it's more of a thunk/thud that you can feel, then I start looking at u-joints. Jordo! has some good suggestions (they tend to make click sounds) but they are a bit lower on my list of possibilities - I'd check those things if it's not axle grease or a u-joint.

^^^ Agreed.
I say, consider a dif fluid change (30 - 36 K is about right) and check the U-joint. The other random stuff can all be ruled out while its on the lift.

Thanks guys, will look into it and keep all of you updated. It's just a click sound. I really don't feel anything at all and the car responds well.

single click from park to drive / reverse or from park to reverse ? if so id be willing to bet its the axles . ive been down that road with my old g and ive done a couple 350s for friends with the same sound . pretty simple to fix just need a socket big enough to get the axle nut off .

It's just a plain single click from park to drive, park to reverse or from reverse to drive and vice versa. Sometimes it doesn't click but it clicks oftenly. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
