Desperate Help

I have a 2009 370z with 68k miles on it. It's just a tad bit past the 60k warranty for powertrain. I didn't know there was an oil consumption issue until it was too late and I had the start of a rod knock. Lesson hard learned trust me. I am just wondering what to do from here. Is there anyone I can talk to or does anyone know someone that will help with the issue to get it fixed? I had just found the TSB on it also while searching for an answer.

Since you're out of warranty, Nissan will most likely do nothing about it. 8K over a 60K warranty isn't a tad bit; it's a world of difference.

Anyways, these VQ37 motors can be had all day long for under $3,000 on Ebay or other reputable Japanese engine dealers. Be different, go VK56 ;) be like that drift 370. I would if I was in the same situation as you. Hell, contact Hinson and see if they offer an LS swap for 370s.

You can try contacting nissan of north america. Depends on how many vehicles youve purchased and what your dealership loyalty is. I work for two different car lines. Nissan is not one of them though. But the two manufactures that i work for will sometimes provide assistance on a case by case basis. Its worth a shot. Eitherwise your prolly gonna be forking over the money for a new or used engine.

I would try calling and explain your situation, can't hurt. Be firm but courteous!

I tried calling but they said no. However that was a quote on the engine swap. During the time I found a TSB on it suggesting a short block change. I didn't have the car that long to have routine maintenance but I found a dealership who sounds willing to help so I'll see how that goes.

As for the engine, the G37 engines are cheaper. Are these a direct fit and does the RWD or AWD version matter?

rwd or awd is just in the motor mounts, oil pan, and some of the coolant lines. You would need to swap those from your current engine. I have an AWD G engine in my car.

Nothing too big of a headache to swap them out? I guess I'll go that route since it's cheaper. I was also told to change the oil and the bearings from the oil pan and see if it goes away first. And also if I do swap motors to use my old flywheel and not the new one.

There is no difference between the G and Z motor as long as they are both RWD. They are a direct swap. Listen to 1slow370 on the differences if it's AWD.

And just a friendly tip since the oil consumption 'crept' up on you. ALWAYS check your oil every time you fill up the gas tank. A low oil level should never sneak up on you unless you have catastrophic failure and you dump it all on the street at one time. If that happens, you'll know! :tiphat:

Oh yeah definitely. I had a Volvo S40 before this and fill it up with oil it's good until the next oil change lol. So yeah lesson learned. I'm going to check every fill up. I just gotta find a good price or anyone to help with getting it back on the road.
