Squeaky Clutch
Hey guys,
So I've searched the forum and couldnt find a good answer for my problem. I have my 370 put away for the winter and am starting to work on it and address some problems. Earlier in the year I lost some "spring back" in the clutch pedal. It just got looser and I figured it was something to do with the CSC so the first thing I thought to do was replace the fluid and see if that would help. The other day I started emptying the fluid from it and replacing it with new fluid. After a few times of opening and closing the nipple and draining the fluid, the clutch started to "squeak". Now every time I put the pedal in it squeaks, usually around the beginning to the half way point. Just wondering what this problem could be and how to fix it. Hopefully I didnt screw up too bad Thanks guys! |

Dumb questions but did you try lubricating the pedal mechanism in the cab? It could very well just be coincidence that it happened with you started messing with the fluid level.

Any update on this? I just replaced my clutch/brake fluid and immediately afterward the clutch began to have a squeak/creak sound from outside the cabin. I had my girlfriend operate the clutch while I listened from under the car and it sounds like it's coming from the master cylinder but I can't be totally sure.
I guess the oem GTR fluid I used doesn't agree with the rubber/plastic in some part of the system? I am totally stumped.

Update:
I just got back from fooling around with the clutch some more. After pressurizing (pumping pedal and holding it down) I have cracked the line at the master cylinder to bleed there and at the normal bleeder valve down by the bell housing. I hear the exact same creak noise I was hearing while operating the pedal when I release clutch pressure by opening the line at those two places. So how exactly does the clutch system operate? Which cylinder would move when pressure is released? The clutch pedal is being held to the floor the whole time so I know it is not moving at all.

Is there any entrained air in the fluid? This can cause noise when forced through a restriction.
The FSM has everything you need to know about how the clutch system works.

My OEM pressure plate was making a similar noise to what you are describing. When I pressed the Cpedal to the floor I could hear it from underneath the car.

Here is a good video on how the MC and slave cylinder work. This is for a BMW, but the principles are the same. And keep in mind our slave cylinder is mounted in the bellhousing, not a external slave like in the video.
