It's normal. I have the SPL ones, probably 3 times worse than Whiteline in noise, but 3 times better in performance.

I love the sound the SPL bushing makes except when it whines right at the common speed limit around here, 40 mph. :nutswinger:

The safe thing is to expect it will make noise. :driving:

It's well worth it to help reduce wheel hop and it's not just the whitelines that will cause this.

juld0zer 02-20-2015 12:18 AM

you'll definitely get it. simply due to the different material and design - eg. silicone filled main bushing vs Whiteline's solid elastomer construction.

the other reasons for the noise relate to the potential pinion angle/universal joint phasing issue. the ear bushing design is also different to oem

For those of you who run whiteline/spl differential bushings: do you run motor mounts and/or transmission mounts as well?

Yes

You'll hear the ring 'n pinion spin w/performance oriented bushings. It's a given. This is why OEM use mushy rubber bushings, to quiet NVH.

JARblue 02-20-2015 09:50 AM

:iagree:

Why are people complaining about additional noise when you upgrade OEM parts to more performance-oriented parts (if not all out racing parts)?

I got my whiteline diff bushing kit installed about 5K miles ago. No complaints other than I wish I had gotten SPL solid bushings instead.

The Z is my DD btw and I don't even track it. Go buy a Tesla if you want a silent sports car :twocents:

I just didn't know it would make my z sound like it is an f1 car lmao

I doubt your Z sounds anything remotely like an F1 car :stirthepot:

Heavier diff fluid helps quiet it down some.

Charles370 02-20-2015 11:23 AM

yea thats what my mechanic was saying, i got gears installed and im changing the fluid next week after 500 miles.

Charles370 03-22-2015 08:41 PM

I want to bring this back up. My whine that was insane that I talked about before was due to the bearing on the main pinion slipping loose and rattling around. Apparently it is a rare occurrence by a defective bearing. Idk if that is the mechanic just covering his *** or not. But whatever I had to order a new bearing and install kit and have the job redone. Everything is good now and the whine from the bushing is barely anything. I only get a whine around 40-50 mph and again at 60mph. I like the noise though and it does add character to the car. All in all I am happy with the bushings now

Taylortoons 03-23-2015 07:32 AM

Cool. Thanks for sharing your experience. I should have my installation complete in the next two weeks.

Presto 03-23-2015 01:20 PM

do you guys install the smaller bushing on top or bottom of the diff? i believe that makes a difference in the whine sound.
