Transmission Grind 1st Gear

Hey Guys,
I took my car to the local dealership in Pascagoula in order to have my car checked out. The car has about 1,500 miles on it. The car is making a really loud whining noise only in first gear between 1k to 5k. I left the car with them that day and they said they would let me know what they will do. In the mean time before i left the Lady who makes appointments in service and drives the cars around back for the techs named Carey said I see you have been racing and abusing this vehicle. I said no, I drive somewhat spiritedly sometimes, but i don't race. She said it would serve them right to not warranty your car. I said excuse me? I have around 1,500 miles on my car and i purchased it brand new not even 3 months prior. Two days passed and I went back to the dealer and they said they had 3 of their service techs look at the car, but they don't know what the noise is, but it is definitely in the tranny. The service techs said Nissan told them they cannot replace anything until they drive a manual 370z equivalent to mine to see if the noise is there. There was no manual z on the lot and they wanted to me to leave the car there for two weeks until they get one in. I said no thanks, ill bring it back. In the mean time i took it to nissan of slidell and got a master tech to look at the car and drive it, and within 5 minutes he said that first gear is grinding. They ordered the part and i am getting the part this weekend. I have no idea how there could be a grind in first gear when i thought these transmissions are practically bulletproof.

Another thing, I was washing my car this weekend and I noticed water in my driver side tail light. I told the local dealer about this when i went for the transmission and they told me that the LIGHT ALWAYS GETS WATER AND IS VENTED. I said i have never had a car get water inside of it in puddles. They said they won't replace the light. I had to wait around and talk to the service manager and show him a picture of the water inside of the tail light in order for him to order one. This was Estabrook Nissan of Pascagoula.

Very good point! OP, did they give you any paper work indicating what part needs to be replaced/ordered? Just like maizenblue said, Nissan dealerships do not rebuild transmissions, they just replace the whole unit.

Dragon_Ball_Z 10-07-2014 05:18 PM

The dealer replacing a gear is supreme nissan of slidell in Louisiana

maizenblue 10-07-2014 05:20 PM

and just thinking, but wouldnt the teeth being destroyed mean there is metal flying around in the transmission which could be damaging the other gears and syncros? just thinking out loud here.

I don't know how they would know that unless the transmission was completely taken apart.

maizenblue 10-07-2014 05:29 PM

its covered under warranty. take it in, get your free rental car and wait for them to fix it.

Dragon_Ball_Z 10-07-2014 05:34 PM
