Clutch misbehaving when cold...
Hey yall,
Relatively new member here. Had my '09 Touring for about 2 months with 57k on it. I normally keep it in my warm garage overnight but had some things in there so the last two nights I've kept it in the driveway. When starting in the morning (nightime lows in the high 40's low 50's) there is a lot more free play than normal and the point where the clutch engages and dis-engages feels much closer to the floor. This goes away after about 15 mins of driving and then it feels like it usually does. Even after the warm up period when it's working "normally", I still don't be seeming to get much launch simply with the clutch from a dead stop and find myself struggling to keep it smooth from a dead stop. I've been driving manuals for the better part of 15 years but this one definitely seems to require the most attention and effort. Being new to these cars it's hard to say what's normal. Can anyone point me to some answers/threads/general knowledge about the clutch system in these cars? Thanks guys! |

Dual Mass flywheel. It sucks. I konked my car out a couple of days ago. That hasn't happened in many years. It seems the previous owner wasn't that good with a manual. I drove a new one with no issues. I have read on here and everywhere I can. Lightened flywheel and Act clutch will go in mine when it is time. Z1 slave cylinder also. Already told the wife, the clutch is not right. So when the time comes and boxes start showing up I won't get any grief.

Thanks, I do have a warranty on it for the next five years so I'm not super worried about things going wrong as long as I can catch them before they leave me stranded. Not sure if/when the clutch fluid was last done. I think I'll take it in and have it gone through. About ready for a 60k service anyway.
