Default Dyno + Oil Change

So today was somewhat a good day. I got off work at 4:00...by the time i got home it was 4:10pm. Was scheduled to do a few pulls on a dyno at 5:30...about a 10min drive away (during traffic hour). So my car has 3500km on it, Stillen G3 Intake and thats it. Yesterday i decided to buy Redline 5W30 oil and K&N filter and i was going to do a oil change. So i got home, jacked the car up, unbolted the plug to drain the oil and then tried to get the stock filter off. I know it should be able to come off by hand but the damn thing wouldnt come off. Spent 15mins trying to get it off but it wouldnt come off. So time was sticking, i put the dirty oil back in...which was pretty much pitch black, noticed some metal shavings on the oil drip pan which were caught in my funnel's filter when i put it back in the car.

So i head to the dyno. Unfortunely the printer was out of ink and i didnt have my flash stick with me. Guys said they would email me the graph...still waiting..lol. Anyways i hit 280hp - 225trq. Weather was 32*C which i think is like 90*F? humity sucked as well so that effected the numbers...plus we are really high above sea level. Either way im happy, this car only has intakes on it and its making the same power as my cobalt did after i put $5000 into it.

So they finished the dyno and i asked them to change the oil so they did. Since i had the oil and filter there and it would only take a matter of mins i thought they would cut me a break and either A. not charge me for that or B. lower the price. They charged me $90 for parts/labour for the oil change. I said to the guy "wtf, by $90 for parts when i have everything here and then for labour when it only took you 10mins to do?" tried to get him to lower it but he wouldnt. So the $74 it cost me to buy the oil and filter and then $90 to get them to change the oil....im pretty pissed by that. If i known they were going to charge me the whole $90 i would have went to Canadian Tire and bought a Boa or whatever its called to strap onto the filter and remove it.

But yea, both the guys and as i, were all shocked how black the oil was with the shavings in it on a new car with only 3500km on it. So like everyone says, check your oil!

wow ripoff on the service charge. some workshops do that when you dont buy the parts frm them. eventually they'll find a way.

hows the G3 intake on your car, did you really notice anything different right before and after you had it installed?

Yeah, I had the same problem with my oil filter on my first oil change. I nearly broke the filter wrench before the thing broke loose. You don't need a gorilla to install a stinking filter.

Yeah Mine was REALLY REALLY hard to remove as well.

I got a hammer and a screwdriver, and hammered the screwdriver straight through the filter and used that as leverage to turn it.

even with that, it was pretty tough.

Best tool out there for getting the filter to break loose:

BIG BIKE PARTS 4-201

Yeah it's sold as a motorcycle part but it fits our filter perfect. Makes removing a stuck filter a snap. Also makes it easy to turn the new filter 1/4 turn past hand tight when installing the new one. I paid about $12.

Yea when i installed the intakes i only had the car for 6 days But i noticed a nice difference in power. Highly recommend the g3 intakes

As for the service, yea im pretty pissed off on that. Never thought to check my bike tool kit but i dont think i have that tool in it. Oh well...the k&n filter has a spot on it to put a socket for next time.

I agree that you got ripped off, but maybe the shop has a 1 hour minimum on all jobs. It is not that uncommon and $90/hr is not an overly high rate for a speed shop.

Mine came off easily.

The crush washer...well, I guess it's still on the drain bolt. I have an aluminum washer on it now (as well) - it was so centered on the drain bolt that I thought it was part of the bolt. =/

They can't legally charge you for parts when they didn't use their parts for the job. Fight the manager for that, cause it's BS.

wow, $90 oil change reminds me of BMW's and MINI's. even so they include true(?) synthetic oil and a new filter.

i have several different filter wrenches but seems like the very basic one that looks like huge channel-locks seem to work best for me. i have a pair from griot's garage (smaller) and one from sears (large).

Your car is stock at this point? Those are pretty good numbers.
