:iagree: the fact that his gas gauge is sitting at 1 dot is kind of a telling sign...OP get a gallon of gas and put it in your Z and let us know what happens

Fuel gauge is at just under 50%...

Water temp is at one dot.

Aint the gas guage on the top? Looks like almost half a tank. Sounds like it's cutting out and going dark right after it tries to crank. Battery dead or maybe a loose cable? Starter shot? volt guage is showing 12v, I think that is low.

Assuming OEM gauges, the battery should be at 14.2 (pretty sure that's what I've read) and the gauge is quite a ways from that. Try a new battery.

To me it sounds like a failing fuel pump. Its just enough to build enough pressure to get a fire and kick out the starter but then the pressure drops and it dies.

Could be a battery, just throw a charger on it and try and start it. Thats the easiest check by far.

Yep. And check if the battery has water in it. If you've got another car try to jump it. If it's not the battery then it gets a little tougher to diagnose via the internet.

If it's a fuel pump I'm sure I've got one in my shed you're more than welcome to buy for cheap. But check the battery first.

Turn out to be the battery, just had to let the car be on the "on" position and spread some voltage all over the car. It started right up. Thanks for the advice!!

JARblue 04-25-2014 01:44 PM

Glad it was an easy one

I'd still take it up to autozone and have it tested. Healthy batteries don't do that.

Solomatrix 04-25-2014 02:27 PM

+1 for getting your battery checked, that shouldn't be happening

Glad to hear you fixed it.

I'm going to try spreading some voltage later.

Chuck33079 04-25-2014 02:32 PM

Yeah, voltage doesn't spread. Electricity doesn't just mosey on over to the other side of the car.

Guess I'll have to find something else to do tonight. Hey Chuck, want to come over and help me install some oil lines? :roflpuke2:

I thought you were moving to Texas :icon17:

kenchan 04-25-2014 06:54 PM

so wat was the root cause? the hell is "spreading voltage?"

sounds more like a back clutch or brake sw to me.

rAiN 04-25-2014 07:08 PM

Lol just ignore what I said.
Although I meant, I just let my car idle at on position and saw a voltage meter going above 12 mark from 10.

Chuck33079 04-25-2014 07:13 PM

Still, that thing is on its way out.
