Differential bushing too while you're in there. It's just a matter of time. Buy the tool for the rear mount and let us all know how well it works.
You shouldn't need to mess with the pinion unless you're doing gears too. Better not to touch it if you don't have to.

Are you referring to this tool: https://www.z1motorsports.com/transm...ol-p-9225.html

Great write-up on the install BTW...thanks! I will be doing this (actually helping a true mechanic) weekend after next and I will let you know how it went.

Yep that's the one. I would of bought it if I had confidence it worked. Saw somewhere that you need to replace the threaded rod after each use because of the force required to remove the bushing. I would be worth it if it works

So I guess I should have thought and asked about this before I ordered the Wavetrac LSD (BTW, I ordered the Wavetrac LSD); has anyone with this unit driven their Z in the rain or snow? I am guessing it would only improve traction and possibly settle down the traction control. Hopefully it doesn't confuse it.

Lol, you are going to love the Wavetrac, come on now it the LDS Nissan uses in their 370z race cars. Also, I can tell you if have tires that are good in the wet you will be just fine. I done over 100 in the wet with no problems!

Ninja Edit: The most fun I had was driving in the wet at on the Dragon at ZDayZ. What's great about a LSD that it locks and is predictable, that is when you lose traction in the rear it's easier to react to what is going on.

It performed beautifully on the dragon in the rain. I think i was going just as fast in the rain as when it was dry.

So the Wavetrac LSD has been installed and I can't say enough about or quantify the improvement in traction and overall impact in performance. I rarely turn off traction control (I used it to learn to be smooth and shift weight better in some known tricky spots along my routes), so where I know it will become active and disturb the power transmission, the LSD has pretty much eliminated these instance in 8 out of 10 times. The severity of the effect of traction control has been greatly reduced and recovers much more quickly the other 20% of the time. Someday I will be a man and turn it off altogether!

Thanks for the information and suggestions fellas...I am very pleased by the results so far!

For me, since this is my DD and I also had the clutch master cylinder and CSC elimination kit installed it was astronomical! But without all that...

Here is the breakdown:

Wavetrac LSD $1,159.00 w/s&h and tax
Axle Flange (1 needed for NISMO/VSLD) $194.61 w/s&h and tax
Z1 Bearing and Seal kit $279.00
Motul Diff Fluid $41.90
Labor ~$300

Total: ~$2000.00

Extras:
NISMO Diff Cover $148.00
Whiteline Diff Bushings $98.00

Was it worth it? I love my Z and I drive it in the winter, so YES!

What's the consensus on install of a Wavetrac for a 7AT with the OEM VLSD?

Can you share from which vendor you purchased the lsd? Also
Did a shop do the lsd install? Did they measure the backlash and buy and install new shims?
Does your cruise control still work?

I bought the LSD from Vivid Racing (Todd to be exact) which I would recommend since they were so helpful.

An individual that happens to be a mechanic performed the install, and yes, he did a lot of work with the shims which were new.

If I think about it I will try my cruise control and let you know if it still works.
