First problem with my 2010
Car wouldn't keep running after it was started today. First problem in 60,000 miles or so. It idles REALLY rough for a couple seconds then dies. Thinking maybe cam timing sensor?
Anyway, I had to have it towed to the closest Nissan dealer. Will see what they have to say. With my previous Nissan cars, I had over 220,000 miles of trouble free driving (1999 and 2005 Maxima). Hmmm...maybe I won't be getting that 2015 after all. |

Did you try cleaning the MAF sensors?

Clean/replace air filter, clean MAFs, check for vacuum leaks, clean throttle bodies.
Any codes?

If they tell you that you need to have the MAF replaced, they're full of crap. I guess if it's covered by warranty, then go ahead. If they want you to pay for them, say no and go get a can of MAF cleaner. The MAFs get oxidized quite easily and should be cleaned reguarly. I was blown away how much better mine ran the first time that I cleaned them.

Nissan just called.
Two things. One a bad fuel pump and a minor tear in a hose. Both being replaced under the power train warranty (didn't need the extended one in this case it sounded like). So, that's a "free" tow (thanks to the extended warranty), and a couple parts replaced at no additional charge to me. Only thing is the parts won't be in until Thursday so that's a bit of a pain but all in all, my faith in Nissan is restored even though that fuel pump should not have worn out so soon. |

Not trying to be a #$% but as a service advisor I am so tied of hearing "should not have worn out so soon" or "should not have broke"...step back a second and think about how many parts your car has on it, just yours, now imagine how many fuel pumps there are that are built by the same manufacturer for multiple car lines, and it is not feasible that ONE of these pumps has gone bad? There is a warranty on the car because there are parts that WILL fail, it is humanly impossible to manufacturer anything and not have a failure rate! My grandfather rebuilt transmissions, carbs, engines, starters, valve jobs etc etc EVERYDAY as a technician in the 50's and 60's, and in just those short years we have evolved into a great era of tech and manufacturing, not to mention entitlement, our society is becoming unreasonable at an alarming rate, this isn't a personal attack, just a vent that was trigger by you, but jeez, come on.

This is not about the dealer, or service, not sure where that came in...it is about people stating they will not buy another product X because his 4x year old x mile car has a broken part, we all have our opinions, that in my mind is not logical, am I am tired of hearing it, again not personal, sometimes you want your 2 cents to be heard, sorry...
There is a rate of failure in any manufactured product, that is a fact of life, and these comments are not to be taken personally, It just my observations that this type of logic is creating an unreasonable society...I just don't get it is all if it make sense to you guys that is ok, it really is. Its actually a miracle it made it that far without incident, I work with a former Nissan service manager, and my cousin was a Nissan tech for many years, they are not near at the quality level of the other top manufactures, granted they are getting better. Not my intention to offend anyone, my apologies if I did, I am just an opinionated person.

It might be, but no matter. Warranty support isn't free...it's a significant part of the manufacurer's profit margin that they need to sustain their business. Any mfgr could provide warranty support for any length time they want. The question us, how much are you willing to pay for? 5 year warranty for $2000 increase in invoice? 8 years? 10?

I am not addressing anyone here as a customer, I wouldn't have a job long if I did that, we are on a car forum where opinions are able to be voiced, that is my PERSONAL opinion, and I hear it all the time, and yes I am sick of it, I did not say I tell my customers I am sick of it, I have to be all oh I am so sorry that happen to you etc etc, that is the job, it does not mean that we can dismiss reality, lets be real is all I am saying, fuel pump when bad after 60k, that is not unrealistic or hard to fathom...I lost a transmission at 17k big deal, got a new one in under warranty, life moves on, Im not mad at Nissan, stuff fails, period.
