First problem with my 2010
Car wouldn't keep running after it was started today. First problem in 60,000 miles or so. It idles REALLY rough for a couple seconds then dies. Thinking maybe cam timing sensor?
Anyway, I had to have it towed to the closest Nissan dealer. Will see what they have to say. With my previous Nissan cars, I had over 220,000 miles of trouble free driving (1999 and 2005 Maxima). Hmmm...maybe I won't be getting that 2015 after all. |
Did you try cleaning the MAF sensors?
|
Clean/replace air filter, clean MAFs, check for vacuum leaks, clean throttle bodies.
Any codes? |

Doing a little research it seems like it might be: 1) Bad gas (but it's been days since I filled up) 2) Cam timing senor gone bad 3) Some other sensor way out of whack The car is under extended warranty from Nissan (the Platinum one) so we will see what they have to say. I'll post back here once I know. |
If they tell you that you need to have the MAF replaced, they're full of crap. I guess if it's covered by warranty, then go ahead. If they want you to pay for them, say no and go get a can of MAF cleaner. The MAFs get oxidized quite easily and should be cleaned reguarly. I was blown away how much better mine ran the first time that I cleaned them.

Nissan just called.
Two things. One a bad fuel pump and a minor tear in a hose. Both being replaced under the power train warranty (didn't need the extended one in this case it sounded like). So, that's a "free" tow (thanks to the extended warranty), and a couple parts replaced at no additional charge to me. Only thing is the parts won't be in until Thursday so that's a bit of a pain but all in all, my faith in Nissan is restored even though that fuel pump should not have worn out so soon. |
Not trying to be a #$% but as a service advisor I am so tied of hearing "should not have worn out so soon" or "should not have broke"...step back a second and think about how many parts your car has on it, just yours, now imagine how many fuel pumps there are that are built by the same manufacturer for multiple car lines, and it is not feasible that ONE of these pumps has gone bad? There is a warranty on the car because there are parts that WILL fail, it is humanly impossible to manufacturer anything and not have a failure rate! My grandfather rebuilt transmissions, carbs, engines, starters, valve jobs etc etc EVERYDAY as a technician in the 50's and 60's, and in just those short years we have evolved into a great era of tech and manufacturing, not to mention entitlement, our society is becoming unreasonable at an alarming rate, this isn't a personal attack, just a vent that was trigger by you, but jeez, come on.

From one 2010 owner to another, I hope your car's sorted mate. |

It should not have failed so soon. If you think otherwise then you do not understand the engineering process. It was designed to live longer than this. The fact that it broke means that this particular pump was sub-standard. |
This is not about the dealer, or service, not sure where that came in...it is about people stating they will not buy another product X because his 4x year old x mile car has a broken part, we all have our opinions, that in my mind is not logical, am I am tired of hearing it, again not personal, sometimes you want your 2 cents to be heard, sorry...
There is a rate of failure in any manufactured product, that is a fact of life, and these comments are not to be taken personally, It just my observations that this type of logic is creating an unreasonable society...I just don't get it is all if it make sense to you guys that is ok, it really is. Its actually a miracle it made it that far without incident, I work with a former Nissan service manager, and my cousin was a Nissan tech for many years, they are not near at the quality level of the other top manufactures, granted they are getting better. Not my intention to offend anyone, my apologies if I did, I am just an opinionated person. ;) |

Saying there is a failure rate doesn't mean anything to the person who had the part fail. If the guy at the dealership told me what you did I'd never go back and probably wouldn't buy another Nissan. That's coming from someone who has owned three of them now. Think about that the next time someone isn't happy when a part breaks. |
I am not addressing anyone here as a customer, I wouldn't have a job long if I did that, we are on a car forum where opinions are able to be voiced, that is my PERSONAL opinion, and I hear it all the time, and yes I am sick of it, I did not say I tell my customers I am sick of it, I have to be all oh I am so sorry that happen to you etc etc, that is the job, it does not mean that we can dismiss reality, lets be real is all I am saying, fuel pump when bad after 60k, that is not unrealistic or hard to fathom...I lost a transmission at 17k big deal, got a new one in under warranty, life moves on, Im not mad at Nissan, stuff fails, period.

I would be throwing a wall eyed fit if it happened to my Z. Thats how you get things fixed for free at dealerships ;) |
Joepro - I appreciate your continuing honesty. It's a valuable insight into why some service advisors are unsympathetic, bigheaded arseholes.

time to upgrade that fuel pump!!! 255lph!
the story sounded like a bad vacuum leak from the start but who knows. |
haha OP my fuel pump went out in my 2010 at about 50k.
http://www.the370z.com/nismo-370z/66...-went-out.html http://www.the370z.com/members/fuct-...l-pump-fix.jpg so thats three 2010 models that have had a fuel pump go out. might have been a bad year for the fuel pump makers. ?? .. |
In this case the OP had an issue with his vehicle and it was repaired under warranty. No one has any idea why the failure occurred, but they are quick to push the blame on the company. The OP said he had a lot of problem free miles in 2 other vehicles from the same company and now all of a sudden we have a deal breaker in everyone's opinion? He got good Customer Service if you ask me. Fixed for free........
I really feel that most of the responses in this thread have been off-topic AND way off the meter, but whatever! Sent from my SGH-T889 using Tapatalk |

In this case your enemy can be your best friend, I can tell each and everyone of you how to deal with service advisors, I am one, and btw, darn good at it I might add, the most difficult part of this job is the people, which I have taken extensive psychology classes(some required by my manufacturer other during my masters studies) to deal with the different personality types, you really want help from a service advisor, who better not to ask that a service advisor? We are people, and people need a place to vent the OP did just the trick, I felt great at work today! Even offered to call the manufactuer for a customer that thinks they have rust between their clear coat and paint on the trunk of their car, see I am a nice guy. |
It's very hard/rare to find service advisors that are willing to help...most are lowlife angry people that are in a transition phase that don't give a crap about their jobs...if you can't handle the pressure or you are not a people person then do this damn job, jeez, it really gets my blood boiling

You know there are good and bad service managers out there with any business of any size. Stuff does happen...I bought a brand new Power Stroke in 95 when they first came out and later found out that the tranny would fail near 70K and it did. I went to my local dealer and because it out of warranty he did it for the cost of parts. My injectors on my current GMC went out at 90K and I took into the GM dealer and they said not a problem. They fix it and said you got another 100K warranty on those bad boys because of the problem. I didn't have another problem with the Ford or the GMC which I still own now and it is going turn 200k here soon. Just pure and simple statistics there is going to be a failure rate of x and exceeds standard of y. But when it is all said and done, I just want them to own what is theirs to own and take care of it without making me angry!
