Built Engine Complete

For those that don't follow my journal.

It's been a long road, but I did most the work myself, with Ron Bergenholtz of JTran Motorsports assembling and blue printing the bottom end. Motor was rebuilt due to wanting more power and good thing we did, because the rods were slightly bent do to some overboosting on the stock block :)

Parts:
Arias 9:1 1000 hp capable, custom built
K1 Rods w/ ARP fasteners
GTM coated bearings
stock crank
Cosworth head gaskets
Nissan rebuild kit
ARP L19's
Stock heads

Next step is completing the fuel return with new rails, fabrication of new turbo manifold for the 7065 snail, I'll update the power numbers when I get them in the next few weeks!

Just out of curiosity what boost and power levels were you running when you 'overboosted'

O&G 02-21-2014 10:15 PM

Well see....what had happen was I used some sub par vacuum lines i received with my vacuum manifold kit and the wastegate line melted and caused the car to overboost to 16 plus psi....felt good but she didnt like it it too much. No rods through the block or anything, but like I said good thing we broke her down.

Finally the build thread on the forum

You car sounded SOOOOO beastly on FB

Gibby1113 02-21-2014 11:16 PM

How much does something like this cost?!? Love the car bro it's absolutely sick!!!! Could I possibly take my car to you have have this done?

Quick question, I know this is probably stupid but I don't know much about this stuff, that sound is your stock engine? Was it boosted when you recorded the video? What bolt ons do you have?

That's like asking a woman her age. You just don't do it. :roflpuke2:

Gibby1113 02-21-2014 11:20 PM

Haha I mean no disrespect, I just lost it when I heard that engine rev. I had to have it haha but seriously though, if you could post up prices I'm MORE than sure some people would be willing to pay to have that done. I would probably be first in line

370Zsteve 02-21-2014 11:24 PM

Holy crap that almost sounds like a V8. Sick!

Rusty 02-21-2014 11:36 PM

Which oil pump you using? The stock or the Nismo pump?

Eclipz 02-22-2014 12:11 AM

your fuel door was open

Sounds means as hell though

roplusbee 02-22-2014 12:13 AM

Wow, was that no catback and just downpipes? Congrats on the built motor!

I used a new oil pump, I don't believe it was a Nismo pump, but I also wasn't aware they were different. I would say I spent about $3k on the engine parts listed but I did get them at vendor cost as JTran is like a brother to me. No labor cost as I did most of the work myself. The parts I used in my build are listed on the first page of my journal. I will be upgrading to 1500 or 2k ID jectors from my current 850's for E85 in the future, new HKS plugs and either the GTR twin pump setup or surge tank setup with another Aeromotive 340lph pump. Still a few things to figure out in the fuel department. Ill also be steping up to a 3.5 single exit exhaust. Main focus rite now is engine break in and fabrication. After that Ill work on pushing it with the rite fuel setup and tune. Ill also be running the JWT flywheel w/ ACT pressure plate I had with an upgraded unsprung disc, forgot which stage it is but it claims to have 600ft.lbs. holding capacity. I will also be using braided vacuum lines this go around. Trying to cover every detail correctly, which us another reason the build has taken some time. Charles at CJM was working with me today on the fuel rails and the fuel sending lines Ill need as I have a majority of the return system completed already.

Any possibility of doing this on someone else's Z for the right price?

I bet 16 psi felt real good...only wish she could actually handle it all day

So I'm guessing you did not wrap your WG lines to protect them from exhaust temperatures?

I have a $600 shipment coming from SummitRacing just to handle heat management. I'm wrapping turbo manifold, downpipe, all wires, all hoses (WG and any fuel/brake lines in line of site of turbo of manifold piping) and of course bagging the turbo.

Good observation, I haent had the car on the street in forever. It lives at JTrAn Motosports in Houston. Yes that was strait header. We are using stock manifold (wraped) w/ V bands instead of the crappy triangle flanges that love to leak.... Can't have leaks pre turbo....that's a nono

Call JTrAn Motorsports if your in this part of the country... Can't go wrong with the people over there. Customer satisfaction is the number 1! Google Ron Bergenholtz, he blueprints and assembles all their motors...a/k/a the mad scientist... Dudes a legend in the import world.

Best investment imo...I did have everything wraped but that crappy vacuum line which wasnt touching a direct heat source

:iagree:

Johnny is top notch when it comes to customer service. I had a hicup with my tune and he completely retuned me no charge. Not to mention when I had to take the car in for service he pulled the tune and reloaded it no charge.

You can't go wrong bringing your build to him

You just confirmed my need to buy the extra thermo-tec to protect everything possible. A couple hundred bucks now is well worth protecting my $12k build...

Everything I've researched says wrap anything that is in direct line of site of a heat source, not just the things that might touch it. Sh!t gets real hot down there....:rofl2:

jwick 02-22-2014 01:03 AM

I know I probably won't be able to touch your built motor but we definitely need to line up an extended H-town drive once I've got the kit up and running. Be nice to know how the JTran single and BP twin scroll compare. I've also got a buddy with a GTM Garrett TT that will be more than willing to roll with us.

Most definitely will be sending pictures. You are most welcome to come by when we are ****!ng with the track car. I always welcome another gearhead to make sure that what we're doing is not an alcohol related bonehead move.

I'm going to come by next Saturday to discuss some build stuff with Johnny so I'll probably see you there.

O&G 02-22-2014 11:18 PM

For sure....figure out that code too and maybe pull up the wirring diagram for that dimmer line for the greddy gauge!
