discussion of immature fast shifting
Like the title says, I ain't innocent on being an experienced driver but I know my flaws and what I do and the cause and effects.
So with that being said, did anybody ever went immature with their cars a few times, gave a little gas, high rev until the shift indicator came on and shifted gears with quickness instead of smoothly? The gears and synchros went in smooth but due to not letting rev fall down to match the next gear, you let go of the gas while pushing in the clutch and dumping it into the next gear while synchronizing pushing the gas pedal to the floor. Yes I know this is being cruel to the car and also very "newbish". Did you all ever get a pop sound in the front? I have two indications, It is either one of the mounts slamming backwards or combustion in the exhaust pipe. Any help gladly appreciated |

The car is fine by the way, I drive it like a baby where people think i'm a wussy for doing so but this is the 3rd time just giving it a stomp to the next gear and getting a pop in the front

Is the car stock? My car would so this before I boosted it and now it doesn't.

I have been full throttle shifting my 370 since the day I got it from the dealer. I used to not do it quite as often because it used to make a clunk noise when I did. The noise eventually went away. I believe that the clunk was from the 2-piece flywheel bottoming out. I believe the noise was gone after doing my turbo and clutch etc install. I cannot think of anything else I changed out that could have been making that noise. If you are not familiar with the VQ flywheel... The flywheels friction plate is suspended by springs.
Perhaps your description matches the clunk I was getting. |

there isn't really an issue with power shifting so far as the pop goes but the synchros don't like it. the rings in the z trans have to be the slowest rings i've ever used, basically anything faster than grandma shifting at high rpm is less of using the synchros and more of just trying to jam the blocker ring in. the z's synchros suck ten bags of dicks

If you shift by side-stepping the clutch pedal. You will get a bang in the dash from the pedal bouncing back against it's stop.

Is that really what it was? I wonder why mine only did it going to 2nd then. I don't get it now with my Specialty Z 6 puck. It seemed like it was coming more from the engine bay when mine used to do it.

Dunno what side stepping is unless you mean heel to toe but isn't that just for the brake and gas? To be honest I was on a adrenaline rush so I wasn't paying attention to detail. That could possibly be it but I dont know if I dumped the clutch that hard to make it bounce, might have. I'll check next time, cause it did sounded like it was coming from below near the firewall

Negative, no side stepping, this is with the vehicle already on 1st to second or second to 3rd. I never hold the clutch down burning the clutch nor the gas pedal to power shift. My foot comes backback with the clutch pedal

Side-stepping is when you just catch part of the clutch pedal with the ball of your foot. Behind the big toe. Pushing down on the clutch pedal while shifting, and release it by sliding your foot off to the side. Letting the return spring slam the pedal home, instead of using your leg. When I used to dragrace back in the day. This is the method I used.

but just the warning shifting fast in a z does lead to lunched synchros
Edit:coming from a guy on his third trans.
