Do i need to replace the clutch when a CSC brakes?
 

I read briefly that there is a possibility that the clutch needs to be replaced when the CSC goes bad

Is this true?
im ordering parts to replace the CSC and CMC and if i need a new clutch disk id want to order it now so i can get the job done in 1 day so i can drive the car again

If the clutch got soaked in fluid then yes. otherwise no

is there anyway for me to check before i tear apart the tranny? or should i play it safe and order another JWT clutch?

do i also need a new flywheel or is that still good even if it gets soaked in fluid?

i still have clutch fluid in my reservoir last time i checked if that helps with anything

If the flywheel got soaked. You can parts clean it and steam it for good measure. Then check for hot spots.

thanks for the tip, i have a feeling the flywheel and clutch are soaked(i have almost no fluid left in the reservoir compared to it being full on friday when it broke) so im gonna replace them(or try to clean the flywheel)

i like the JWT clutch but since i need a new one if i can upgrade it at a similar cost to the JWT clutch i will

also is there anything lighter than the JWT flywheel? or is it the lightest flywheel available for the price?

the lighter the flywheel the more chatter you will get (just a forewarning) and the jwt is just a stock disk with higher clamp so you *could* just replace the friction disk and clean off the flywheel and pressure plate. I wouldn't go crazy with a parts washer and steaming you dont want to wash the lube out of the pressure plate assembly just get the brake fluid out. call up jwt and see if you can just get the friction disk. You hardly have any mods so you could just run a nissan clutch on the jwt flywheel if you want something that will be easier on the CSC. (lower clamp pressure means less work for the hydraulics, and it has the correct finger engagement instead of using a 350z pressure plate like the jwt)

well i dont like the 370z stock clutch a lot, no feeling and completely numb, i did call JWT and they said i can buy just the clutch plate for $160 iirc

my reservoir is close to empty when i checked it today so i think there is a great chance i need to clean those parts and get a new clutch plate anyways

do you know the type of places that would be able to clean the flywheel and clutch, JWT said to use brake cleaner, and some friends recommend dawn with warm water and if that doesnt do it than engine degreaser with a rag

im upgrading to the Zspeed CSC(what i should have done from the beginning) and im replacing the CMC with a brand new OEM one like Zspeed recommends so hydraulics should be fine after this, i just made the mistake of letting nissan put a factory CSC in the tranny cause now they refuse to touch it even though they told me that they would cover it if the part failed

should only need a can of brake cleaner, its brake fluid take it apart spray the flywheel wheel wipe off with a rag, spray out the presure plate assembly spring area a bit, and then spray and wipe the pressure plate itself and let it dry for 15mins. its brake fluid not oil so it doesn't take much to clean it you just cant get it out of the friction disk so that needs to be replaced. might as well clean out the bell housing a little while your in there too. same deal spray and wipe. nissan is being a bunch of jacokoffs about this whole deal instead of just fixing it. between this, the cvt's, and the puke i really don't know about the brands future(these csc's have been an issue since the 06 nismo and the still havent fixed it)

also the exedy kits all have the correct syle spring fingers for the 370z(so long as you dont buy a 350z one which parts places have been known to sell for the 370) but they are a bit pricey the stage one is already over $1k

ill go ahead and get all the stuff i need, thanks so much bro, i really appreciate the help, im just gonna buy a clutch disk just incase it is soaked in brake fluid, im like 80% sure it is since my reservoir is well below the min line yesterday but there might be a chance it isnt

If your going to replace the CSS, then you might as well update the clutch & flywheel to a better aftermarketpiece. You already haev the transmission dropped, so why not. The main thing is $$$$.

i have a JWT setup already, only thing i could do to upgrade that is to step it up to an OS giken or something but i dont want to spend that much on a clutch, especially seeing as i dont have much done to the car right now

clutch alignment tool!! going baller status, I usually use my 11 or 12mm deep socket lol

LMAO, i didnt know you could use a deep socket, this is my first time ever tearing into a transmission to do anything i kind of figured the clutch alignment tool would be money well spent
