Default Anyone tell me how bad this head/valve is?

Can anyone tell me from the looks of this what might need to happen. This is a water damaged Z (think it was a flood vehicle). Just checking for a friend to see if anyone has seen anything like this. I have opened engines before and my advice to him was drain all the fluids.. check for any rust or really off colored fluid. Do a flush of major parts and pieces and check compression. Maybe new plugs and minor stuff here and there... i don't know what else to tell him. Maybe a rebuild needs to be done? Thanks in advance!

clean the carbon check for cracks and warpage, looks like in needs spark plug hole repair, check to see if the valves are bent or rusted, if the valves are good its fine. Its very hard to get the intake valves serviced (nissan doesnt sell parts) so if the intakes are bad shes gonna cost a lot. clean it up first and check to see if the head is warped.

Looks like chunks missing on the edge of the combustion chamber at the 4 and 8 o'clock position and in the quench area. Severe detonation or corrosion?

Are they fixing the flooded car? Or just stealing the engine from it? More background info?

My guess is, it's detonation (specially since damage seems to be present on the exhaust side only). Water damage would have probably bent a rod and/or damaged the piston. Is there only one cylinder that shows signs of damage like this one?

I'm concerned about the edges of the combustion chamber and how small that gap is between the chamber and the water jacket. It's salvageable, but he would need to get it TIG welded and machined. Personally, I'd just buy a new head (or a long block depending on the rest of the engine).

Im getting pueced together info too. God sent him my way so I could be of assistance. I just happened to bump into him. So.... I will relay all the info so far. Im thinkjng head replacement at this point might be ok... but if he is going to do that he might as well rebuild the engine so he can also chech bearings, cam, crank, and all that too?? Just my thoughts. I havent rebuilt and engine for quite some time and definately not worked on any z engine since the 280zx.

Water damage motor. If it was running when or tried to start it with water in the motor. Chances are some of the rods maybe bent.

if it was water damaged but not hydrolocked at a bare minimum you are going to need to check or replace the rings, if there was water in the cylinder there was water in the rings and that will rust them, it will cause hell on the bores, so it my need a hone too, dropping it off at a machine shop at this point is the sensible decision

one valve looks trashed, but you'dd really need to clean off all the carbon deposits to get a better idea.

Compression test? leakdown?

I suspect there was damage to the heads/engine before the engine was water logged.
