A New problem just appeared today
Hi guys
my Z has 130k miles on it and installed some boltons except headers ( still running oem headers and the headers cats still on too ) and NST pulleys anyway today I was hanging out with my wife and everything was fine I decided to give it a full throttle and I did after I slow down, I stopped in a gas station and I noticed some noise  I tried to listen carefully to know where that sound come from but it's really hard to tell but I think it's not from the head or inside the engine I felt that it is from a pulley or something like this it feels like coming from the bottom front section from the engine I don't know what it is exactly anyone have any idea ?? BTW the noise sounds like ticking in idle and if I increase the RPM, the ticking gets faster and faster |
A video might help ;)

pop your belt of and check your idlers the vhr has 4 idlers if you count the belt tensioner and at 130,000 (holy **** you have 100k more than me) they could be bad

I kid I kid but yeah the idler bearings are nice to catch while they are loose and not seized, burning the belt or worse. I've seen it (not on a z) where the pulley comes apart and falls into the fan and then you lose a radiator too. Any time the belt is changed its a good idea to check the pulleys for wobble, they should be nice and tight spin freely, no sounds. If you doubt a pulley a mechanics stethoscope on the boss the pulley is mounted to will tell you its bad, a good pulley makes a quit whirr noise a bad one makes either a screechy noise or a grinding/rumbling noise |
