My "Z" has arrived in Japan
Experts,
My US 370z Sport/Touring (manual) has just arrived in Japan, and I have to get emissions completed on it. Although I love my 370z just as much as I loved my 350z, I'm not a "gearhead" per se, so I figured I'd ask you experts a few questions that I can't track down on my application: 1. Emission timing: (expressed in B.ATDC/min-1) 2. Differential (I'm pretty sure it's 3.692) 3. Emission control devices and quantity (the list - 3 way catalytic converter - Oxidation catalytic converter - Air pump - Air suction valve - EGR (Exhaust gas recirculation - Oxygen sensor Thanks for the assist! |

If he lives in a state where he can register it, just because you can import it doesn't mean your state will let you drive it. Also he would have to ship his z back to the us to sell it, or license it there anyway.

Thanks for all the feedback. I have already done the research. Emissions is not going to be a problem, just needed some of the data I listed (i.e. fill in the blank) that I originally posted. I believe I 90% of it online.
Out of curiosity, is anyone speaking from experience about bringing a stateside Z to Japan? I already have my car an am driving it here under temporary tages. It's been easy so far: It was easy to ship over, and emissions are going to be a little bit of a pain but no modifications required. I can ship my Z back to the states no problem. No "conversion" required. It will be an "E" plate that I can ship back to the US easily if I still have it when I transfer. I've already confirmed this. The only modification that might need done is a headlight alignment (which doesn't make a lot of sense, but it might be required). The ONLY part of my original email I need confirmation and quantity on are the emission control devices (I think 2 Catalytic converters and 4 oxygen sensors is the answer). Can anyone confirm these? Is there an EGR? Thanks again for all the responses! |

Yes, 2 Cats, 4 O2 sensors
I want to say no real EGR, just overlap of the intake/exhaust strokes

I am at a loss here. If you have a USDM Z and are in the process of registering your car in Japan, you still have to meet JCI. Second, a USDM Z will have all of the necessary emissions equipment on-board already (unless it has been modified). Third, if you are military...........there are steps that you can take to make it work. Will it be worth it........not by a long shot.
My experience is with European (TUV) standards, which are slightly tougher than Japan (JCI), but not as bad as California (CARB) or Hawaii (RECON). I have been stationed in Hawaii as well. My road dog while stationed in Italy, brought his car with him from Japan. All I am saying is that you may regret this undertaking and wish you would have just picked up a 1971+ Z or 1989+ Skyline. If you have any more questions, feel free to PM me and I will put you in touch with some people that can help you through the process.
