Default Not another oil/filter thread...

Well hello there everyone first off i wanna say that i do realize that this topic has been discussed multiple times but i would like to get an updated discussion around this topic. First of all, i've had the Z nismo for about a month now and its time for an oil change, which brand oil/filter do you guys recommend? i figured i would buy my own oil and filter but what im concerned about is if i do so, and if somehow it ends up causing a problem to the car, will the dealership void the warranty and claim that they are not supposed to fix anything related since i used a different oil/filter?
Again im sorry because this is a repeated topic any input would be appreciated

No. Do not use 0-40.

Use 5-30 as the manual specifies.

I use Redline 5-30 and K%N filter.
Chuck33079, DEpointfive0 and COSMO like this.

How much do you believe oil has changed since the last time this was discussed?

This is the exact combination that i had in mind, my only concern was the K&N filter.. i just hope that the dealership wont count that as an aftermarket "mod" because Redline is somewhat like Ester

Lol sorry what i meant was that this topic was lastly discussed about 2-3 years ago and maybe some people have developed a better understanding of what works best for this engine

Man I went through that same boat I just decided to go for 5/30 Mobil 1 and I've always used the Mobil 1 filter and I'm 71k on my z. I did run 10/30 royal purple but I was Naive and changed oil immediately. I was going to try 0/40 but why bother with that I mean our cars are designed for 5/30 oil.

I think im somewhat convinced to use Redline 5w30, but in my situation would i just use the 14610 instead? and also would a nismo require anything different?

same here man i've always used Mobil 1 on all my previous cars and never had an issue, i just feel like Redline would probably be the better option here, only because its more expensive lol

Both filters the 14610 and the 14612 will work fine. The 14612 I use because it is shorter and is easier to get into the cramped space with the thermostatic plate. If you do not have one, the 14610 will work fine for a base or a Nismo.

DON'T OVER THINK OIL AND FILTERS!!!

Nissan engineers designed your Z - not the internet forums. The OM says 5W-30, dino or synthetic. Your call. Any SAE approved oil will work just fine. Just change it at regular intervals. Same goes for the oil filter. Now go get an oil change and drive your Z and quit worrying about oil types.

That would account for the accent.

When the question is about oil, the answer is to go do some reading over at Bob Is The Oil Guy.
