Vehicle Information Display gone crazy
Hey everyone!
Im new here and this is my first post, I've searched for this on the forums and on google and nothing comes up. So hopefully I put this in the right section. So heres the problem, I was driving back from work and when im about to pull in to my house the VID(digital gauge that reads mpg, temp, trip computer) goes nuts! The fuel gauge the temp gauge and the entire digital portion are all flickering and distorted. Heres a video showing what happened at the moment, it subsides after I pause the video and then I began recording again which is what you'll see. Music: Don't Fear the Reaper- Blue Oyster Cult lol **The VID(and fuel and temp) is still flickering its not blank when I drove it this morning, I thought it could be the volts which look to be close to 15 but after reading through the forums 14.4 seems to be average. The service light is up because of the O2 sensor. What do you guys/gals think I can and or should do,if you've had the problem before how did you solve it? Update: Reset the ECU by disconnecting the battery, no positive result. Its still messed up. FYI I know it was resetted because the windows don't automatically go up and radio is all back to default settings. |
The only thing that you can try is to reset the ecu by disconnecting the negative terminal on the battery, and hope it clears it.
If NOT? A trip to the dealer will have to be made to diagnose, and check that cluster gauge. |
Yeahhhhh, I'm going to bet you need a new cluster...
|
If it is only going nuts in one specific location, I suggest that our have a radio frequency source of some magnitude nearby. If there a power substation or transformer nearby for instance?

Looking through here my voltage seems fine and the idea you presented also came up... but its at my house when it happened and well I live there, this would have occurred way sooner and I drove it a couple miles today to no avail. |

Jeezus, if it's not under warranty, which unless you got an extended warranty, I don't think it will be covered. And a new cluster is... $800-1000, especially because they have to program the miles and such.
If it isn't covered, PM me, let's talk |
Methinks the Reaper, to which B.O.C. refers, hath cleaved your gauge cluster's circuitry in twain with His dread scythe.
Head to the dealer -- its probably going to just get replaced. EDIT: No warranty? Any other symptoms? It's possible it could be a loose or damaged connection. |

If it is loose how can I get to the wiring harness? |

That's definitely a strange problem.
Try going into self-diagnosis mode. Here are the steps on how to do it according to the FSM: http://media.ziptied.com/members/fil...10.19%20PM.png http://media.ziptied.com/members/fil...15.11%20PM.png Good luck! Let us know how it turns out. |
