shifter feels sloppy...
hey guys,
new member, possibly getting in a 370Z in a couple of months or so. i drove a six-speed w/ syncro rev and really enjoyed it, minus the extremely sloppy shifter feel. i have an sti with a lot of the shifter bushings replaced with harder poly and it made the shifts feel a LOT more crisp and clean. are there any mods for the 370 like that, outside just a short shifter? |

actually there is a short shifter kit out by B&M already. somebody was selling one pretty cheap in the "parts for sale" section, check it out. if not go to doubledownmotorsports.com i think they got them

thanks for the info. i knew there were probably a few short shifters out there, not sure the brands.
however, the jist of this post was more about bushings for the shifter, not really the short shifter itself. there seems to be a LOT of slop and play in the shifter itself, like between the gates. |

yeah i know, but i dont know of any bushing setups out yet. i do know however that the short shifter kit fixes this problem very nicely. maybe you dont want it to be shorter though

B&M Short Shifter Experience
Yep, its a complete shifter with shifter housing/fixed gates. I had one on my 350Z...worked great for me, but is noisy when decelerating at times. Not sure if B&M fixed the noise (NVH) issue.

The B&M is like 5/8" shorter than stock, but it changes the height of the pivot point, makng the shift throw shorter and firmer because of the lower mechanical leverage.
Too me, The B&M feels notchy. I was thinking about this the other day..... in the middle ground, what one person will call sloppy is notchy to another. It depends on which end of the spectrum your tastes lie. I do like the B&M, but it is firm enough that I sometimes have to hunt for the gear unless I ram it in there. The stock shifter uses a light touch and finess. The B&M reminds me of my Corvette...Stiff, notchy and needing to be manhandled. |

^between those two, i lik the 2nd. after changing out a lot of the shifter bushings and shifter in two subarus ive owned, im really accustomed to a certain feel. if i wind up with a Z its good to know i have a good option for shifting.
