Nismo oil cooler install
Has anyone done the oil cooler install on a nismo yet? The reason I ask is that somebody put a shock mounted horizontal right where it seems all the oil cooler kits are installed(including the nissan unit). There does not seem to be enough clearance between the damper and the condensor coil. Thinking that I will either have to angle it severely forward or use the setrab 9 series(really long) and keep the height low. Any thoughts?

I second this request. I've heard of people removing the stabalizer bar, but I'm not on board with that idea.

if the cooler can be mounted on the lip in front of the condenser then i think it will fit behind the stabilizer bar but i haven't gotten into it far enough to know for sure. a guy in the Z Club looked at it and showed me his cooler and it looks possible. maybe i'll just order one and give it a shot. definitely not removing the stabilizer bar permanently though.

If you use the setrab brackets it won't fit behind the damper. Custom might. I used a setrab series 9, three track days, only one problem. That event I was running dino oil and the car got up to limp mode temps. switched to Royal purple, no more problems.

Hey Bucketman and other NISMO 370Z owners...here is how you install a Nissan Motorsports Oil Cooler onto a NISMO.
That lateral stabilizer..which is actually for Harmonics not for chassis stiffness (this is based on a discussion with a Nissan Motorsports Representative)...anyway...take that stabilizer, unbolt it from the front end. The FATTER end of the stabilizer comes factory on the driver side, right where you are installing the cooler. You will need to just flip it around 180 degrees putting the FATTER end on the passenger side. By doing this, it makes the NISMO/AUTECH label upside down but it does not hurt its performance. Once you do that, you will be good to go on the installation. |
Also, you can flip that mounting bracket around either way. If you mount it with the tabbed edge facing towards the front bumper, it will make the oil cooler stand about 2 to 3 inches from the condenser. If you flip the bracket around the other direction, it will move the cooler closer to the condensor.
Give me a shout if you guys need any help with the installation! |
Thanks for the info. Seen the damper flipped before and would have bought a little bit taller cooler if I had seen it before I installed mine. I wanted my hose in/out on the bottom so couldn't flip the bracket. Have run a couple of track days and what I installed will do for now.

Will all the oil coolers fit behind damper if you flip it, or just the Nismo one?
|
I am sure most would fit on top of the plastic support behind the damper if you flipped it. That won't work if you want the hoses coming off the bottom, which is what I wanted. Once you have the front bumper off you will see, or even if you look in with a flashlight, there is about 2 inches on top of the support before you get to the condensor.

I can vouch for the 34 Row Nissan Motorsports and all 3 of our Oil Cooler Cores. I am not sure about the Stillen due to the type of bracket that thay are using with their oil cooler kits.

I have a nismo also, bought an oil cooler from GTM and mounted it in front of the stabalizer bar, it fits fine, another member "Rackley" posted the install in the DIY section which I used for my install, his car is not a nismo though and he mounted his upside down, i mounted mine with lines from the top (just use to it that way), I used their brackets but did have to make and modify my own for proper fit...... Sorry not the best pic but didn't take any without the nose off. I chose GTM because there sandwhich plate works off a thermastat unlike stillens, and i didn't want to move the power steering cooler (see stillen oil cooler instructions), hope this helps

Thanks for the info on the GTM cooler, this is the one that I was thinking about buying and now plan on buying. I especially like that the GTM includes the sandwich plate.

All of the oil cooler kits include the sandwich adapter plates, I am not sure I understand what you mean by that? Currently both the Stillen and Z1 kits use a Earl's Sandwich Adapter while the Nissan Motorsports uses a CNC made unit that they have created. |
my oil cooler will be in by the end of next week! will be shipping out today :happydance:
i'll be getting it installed by the end of the month and i'll make sure to document the whole process for the other Nismo owners out there. |
