Car won't start? (seems like a unique issue?)
I purchased my 2009 370z from CarMax about a month ago. Recently, I've been I went out to breakfast, and after coming back I attempted to turn on my car. No good. I have the red warning light (in the shape of a car with a key on it). According to what I've read, this is the infamous 'steering column lock'. I peaked under the column to look at the revision, and i have RevD? I have heard about A-C failing, but havent heard about D failing. My key works as far as unlocking and locking my car so I'm assuming that a low/bad battery is the issue. In the meantime, I'm without my daily driver. I'm a United States Marine, so luckily, I LIVE at work =_=
Help would be appreciated, going later today to buy a 3v key battery in case that is in fact the problem (doubtful). |
Forgot to mention, lights on the inside won't light up or anything. I can move the steering wheel, etc. There hasn't been any physical dmg to the key since I treat them like diamonds

if both keys aren't working, then I would agree. I have not had this issue and don't know if I ever will, but I have read a lot.
Good luck. |
What the battery voltage gauge shows??? Easy first step is to check your battery cable connections and battery voltage..
|
I cant even see it cuz the car electrical wont come on. It was above halfway yesterday morning and battery connection seemed solid yesterday when I looked. I still get the key flashing and I get the little warning when thr fob is in the fobgina and the door is open (the one reminding you to take your key)

When my key fob battery went out I had a warning abouve my fuel gauge for a few days before I swapped it out, so I don't think it would of instantly gone bad on you. Im guessing its either the steering wheel lock or the battery.

Yea ima give it a shot and hope thats what it is

I've heard of rev d failing. This is why you need to pull the fuse regardless. I'd say tow it to a dealer.

Is the fuse pull a permanent solution?

yes but can't do it if not if your lock failed. need to get that fixed first

If you mean "Can the ESCL still fail after the fuse is pulled?", then, yes. There is an electronic board in the ESCL that has to shake hands with the BCM before the car will start. The board will eventually fail but I have seen no reports of one doing so - yet. |
first i would try jumping the battery.
then, if you can hear the steering lock wind up noise when you shut off the car and open the door, or when you turn the car on (2nd button press), then your steering lock is fine. RevD is no guarantee it's not going to fail as we already had some folks reporting their RevD failed. you'll need to pull the fuse or cut brown wire while you have a working lock. check DIY section how to do it. fritz and baer explained how to do it. |
